BBC America is currently hiring graphic designers for the channel. Just thought I'd share this with you.

BBC America, the critically acclaimed cable channel, is searching for an extremely creative and experienced On-Air Graphic Designer to execute motion and still graphic elements for on-air promos, interstitials, branding and sales presentation, added value tapes, press and pr tapes, new business materials and integrated campaigns across all media.

Qualified candidates will possess:

· Strong knowledge of Shake, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and Final Cut Pro HD editing system and related post-production software;

· Ability to meet deadlines for projects and a proven track record as an innovative, creative thinker;

· Strong aesthetic design skills;

· Experience dealing with Writer/Producers and Producer/Editors and an understanding of brand positioning and marketing context of BBC America.

Creative Director

BBC America, the critically acclaimed cable channel, is searching for a Creative Director. This position, reporting directly to the VP of Creative Services, will be responsible for:

Writing and producing;
Overseeing and executing projects from concept through delivery;
Directing and supervising video editors, sound editors, graphic designers and on-air announce talent;
Managing all on-air processes;
Working with the VP to guide Writer/Producers and Producer/Editors and Graphic Designers through the creative process of executing promos, trailers, graphic elements and a wide variety on-air deliverables;
Establishing and managing timelines and schedules and;
Managing relationships with multiple departments/vendors.


To qualify, candidates will possess

5-6 years of experience as a network promotion professional with creative, production and administrative skills to meet the demands of a fast-paced and challenging position.;
Knowledge of promo editorial process from beginning to end, including: Final Cut Pro HD and a variety of post-production software;
Excellent writing and creative thinking skills;
Experience in all aspects of television shoot process including ability to direct shoots;
Participate in casting, art direction, location shooting and budget management skills;
Understanding of marketing principles as they apply to cable TV;
Keen attention to detail and follow through;
Very strong initiative and creative problem solver.

They should work harder on their programming first. I can't believe they're still showing Benny Hill! and Touching Evil started this week! Its 2006 people!

Benny Hill is massively popular in America as are a lot of shows considered very passé here. Similarly one of the most popular programmes on BBC Prime used to be Keeping Up Appearances - again, long seen at home as a bit twee, but a big hit with people who presumably thought we all live like Hyacinth or Onslo!

The channel has been working on more up to date programming in the last year. Its improved dramatically since its launch and when the channel devoted most of its air time to home make over shows like House Invaders or Changing Rooms. They tried to establish a niche, but the lost their core audience in the process.

Since BBC America relocated to NY and has doubled its programming budget, we've had some decent offerings. For example, the current series of Waking the Dead is on. Sea of Souls seen on BBC 1 aired this past fall. Footballers Wives and Bad Girls are doing very well. Mile High from Sky TV has gathered momentum. Reality series such as What Not To Wear continue to very popular and the channel has devoted its early morning air time for BBC World. As for B.H, its not about age. You have to think what Americans will like, not what we'll like.

BBC America is a very niche product. Most Americans don't take British TV seriously -- they still think of the shows made 30 years ago, and think of the programmes in the main as being those funny little shows from across the pond.

There is no mainstream interest in British TV over there. So to say that Benny Hill is immensely popular is bogus.
