According to Broadcast Magazine online (www.broadcastnow.co.uk), BBC America will be rebranded on 17th January with a radical new look designed by mOcean

This is the image of the new logo and/or ident. Look familiar?
Don't you think the execs at ABC are going to be a little pissed as they've nicked their 'a'?

I know it's not the entire ABC logo, but it's an incredibly similar font and looks remarkably like the abc1 ident here.

The full article can be read here: http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/broadcastnowArticle.aspx?intStoryID=166632 for those of you with a Broadcast Subscription.

Perhaps it's some kind of parody on ABC? ie. ABC with the colours of the union jack...I don't know...but I don't think we can really make comment until we see a better image or video. Sounds interesting though.

If I hadn't been told otherwise I'd assume that was an ABC1 ident, I'm sure almost everyone else who knows the ABC logo would agree! Who knows, maybe it looks different in the animating ident but either way that one still picture says otherwise.

It certainly is a major resemblance. Surely they must have got, at least, inspiration from it.

It looks like they used ABC's Blippo Light SF font.

Who came up with that 'i' bit first though? It also appears at the start of the that ITV logo.

The Beeb brought out BBCi shortly after the launch of digital text services, rebranding all "interactive" media BBCi. ITVi launched some time after this; the BBC then renamed the BBC website bbc.co.uk, keeping BBCi as the name digital TV text and interactive services system, with a circular "i" logo replacing the 4-box design.

They've obviously done the work to remove the top part of the 'a' however, which does suggest they are going for an ABC look.

can we assume that BBC Canada will get the same, but with a C instead of an a?
