I've only seen the stacked logo in a "chiclet" or rounded box at the end of the
Ground Force America
promos, but not on their idents ... I'll see if I can do some captures here if the idents have changed.
EDIT: Yep, looks like it's just the promos thus far. The idents are the same bouncy cowboys with the 1997 branding arrangement.
The new arrangement they're doing on the promos, if you're interested, looks something like this:

It's my image, but gives you an idea of what it looks like.

It's not available in HD format just yet, and I have no idea what their schedule is for converting to HD. All the widescreen video they show from the UK is shown in 14:9, and looks generally botched together. They'd also likely have to re-shoot their presentation (idents, coming up boards, etc.) unless they have a sneaky HD copy laying around ...

Is BBC America available in HD format or just plain old regular format?

It might look bad, but better, as HD format is higher-quality (more pixels per cm) than PAL. As it stands, of course, NTSC is generally regarded to be lower-quality than PAL. So, perhaps the widescreen stuff at least will be the proper aspect ratio. But as for the quality of the video, I'm really not sure until I see it.

Out of interest if they did go HD how would all our widescreen stuff look on it as it is shot in the same resolution as normal TV over here. Would it look good or bad?

I wonder why they gave it a rounded box? To give it a unique look perhaps?
What about BBC Canada?

HDTV is generally deemed to be either 1280x720 or 1920x1080. UK Digital TV in the UK is 720x576 or 702x576, with some stuff at 540 or 544x576. Non-HD Digital TV in the US is 720x488 or 712x576, with some stuff at 640x480 or 480x480 I believe.
NTSC analogue is deemed to be quite a bit lower quality than the above.
As well as the resolution quality - there is also the issue of data rate. If you over compress a high quality source picture it can look worse than a lower resolution source picture compressed less.
The BBC have sold quite a lot of shows shot on SDTV and uprezzed to HDTV (like the Blue Planet) to HD broadcasters - as the source quality at SDTV can be very good quality if the post production is done well.
BBC America could conceivably move to the same DTV format as Fox does - 720x480 16:9 - and this would allow most 16:9 series to be shown in their original aspect ratio. However the penetration of 16:9 sets is lower in the US I believe?

I don't like the look of that rounded box very much. The Beeb tried to make the presentation of their channels similar by using the boxes on all of them, but they are all beginning to look majorly different.
BBC ONE - Square, Left side
BBC TWO - Square, Right side
BBC THREE - Square, Right Side, Size Change
BBC FOUR - Square, Right Side
BBC America - Rounded
See, the only two the same are BBC TWO and BBC FOUR. They all look too different. I know it seems petty, but it would make the BBC's presentation so much better if they were all square, on the right hand side, and in Gill Sans.
