Right, I've been having a poke around the bbcamerica.com site and have noticed some v. odd things.

  • Walking with Beasts in called 'Walking with PREHISTORIC BEasts' and 'The Ballard Of Big Al' is called Allosaurus. Why do the names change?
  • The BBC News site, so says the FAQs is www.bbcnews.co.uk
  • Compared to the sheer class of BBCi why is the BBC America so sh*t in design terms? and finally
  • Why can't you get BBC World in the USA?

I believe it is the same for Father Ted which also goes out on BBC America. It must be a special deal between the BBC and Channel 4.

'Father Ted' I believe is Hat Trick productions for Channel 4 - Who produces 'So'? I know the production slide has a picture of a frog on it!!

How about Princess?

Anyway BBC World can't broadcast on the US because of a rule on externally owned channels. But don't even ask how BBC America gets away with it!

Just because So G.N. is produced by an idependant company for Channel 4, it doesn't meen to say that the indie or C4 can't sell it on to other broadcasters. BBC America is just a commercial company so whether it buys programme rights from Channel 4 or BBC Worldwide is of no concequence.

Secondly, So GN is produced by So Productions - I'm guessing that Mr Norton owns a slice of that company?

Rapido produce EuroTrash for Channel 4. An interesting fact is that Rapido is (or at least was when I learnt this) partly owned by Richard Banson. The cynical amoung you would realise that he doesn't want you to know he makes trash tv shows (quite literally) hence the lack of Virgin branding - very unusual...

Sorry for the spelling mistakes.

Peter.

AFAIK the US rule about ownership is applied only to TV stations and not to cable or satellite channels. Also, BBC America and BBC World (and BBC Prime) are wholly owned channels of BBC Worldwide Ltd. Maybe the problem lies in the rights to certain programs showed on BBC World.
BBC America is distributed by Discovery Communications Inc.

And also BBC America broadcasts BBC World News at certain times of the day. Also, BBC World News is shown on local PBS stations across America. So it is kind of pointless to have World broadcasting in the U.S. while two networks already show its bulletins.

But what I find unfair is that BBC America had a Balloons era, while BBC Canada didn't. http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/cheesy.gif
