That is exactly why these edits do not work. The crucial point of the Circle idents is that the 'o' is placed in the exact centre of the screen; the idents revolve around the 'o' being the innermost circle, the focal point. Removing the 'o' means all you are left with is a logo revealed by WMMesque circle effects.

The 'a' was too similar to ABC, so I'm guessing they felt the BBC AMERICA logo was more recognisable.

Not sure if I just watched it at the wrong time, but when I watched BBC America earlier this year I don't remember seeing any idents as such at all. Before the news was an anno over BBC World branding and that was it

Alot of Amercian TV is like that, from what I remember when I was over there, the only thing you got close to an ident was whatever they were showing in the promos, so I'd guess when these air they'd probably be more like a sting or something.

I think they have made the word America quite small, because the important part of the brand is the BBC.
