New set of idents appear on the channel next monday. Here's an article.

ATLANTA BBC America said it plans to launch new network promotion spots Monday.

The four new spots are the first work from the Ebeling Group, an independent Los Angeles shop that won the account in a review late last year. The Bethesda, Md.-based network, which has not changed its promotion spots since 2001, held the review specifically for the project. Campaign spending was not disclosed.

"This is a very competitive business and you have to keep looking fresh and new," said Amy Mulcair, director of publicity for the network.

Each of the new spots will incorporate the existing campaign's use of the British Union Jack flag in unusual ways and include the black boxes that surround the BBC letters in the network's logo.

In a spot called "Head," a man goes behind a black box with an Afro and emerges with a shaved head tattooed with the Union Jack. In another spot, a man in scuba gear climbs out of a black box and has a goldfish painted like the British flag swimming in his mask.

BBC America is a digital cable and satellite network that reaches 42 million homes in the U.S.

Sounds uninspired and rubbish.

But we'll see.

And BBC Canada will likely remain unchanged.

Why have you put this in The Newsroom? BBC America isn't a news channel...

Does it still carry BBC World News during breakfast though?

yes. BBC World News is shown at 6, 7 and 8 am.

Quite like the current idents myself - and from the description above I think the theme will be staying, with the "BBC America" boxed - but this box will be used more imaginatively!

Be interesting to see - but certainly not the BBC idents that most need replacing!

I think it means that the black boxes of the actual |B|B|C| logo will be used in the ident, rather than the BBC America logo being boxed. Still, it'll be using the logo more imaginatively than it has been - and probably break a few more of those "branding rules"!

From what i picked up from the forums at bbcamerica.com i think all it was was some idents they didn't seem to like them much either.
