Isn't Dolly Parton: Live from London a little outside of their remit? She doesn't seem to be singing in Gaelic. She doesn't seem to be Scottish (b. 1946 Tennessee, U.S) and she doesn't seem to be in Scotland (she is at the 02 in London).

I can't see how this is serving Gaelic speakers or Dolly Parton fans (who probably don't check BBC Alba's schedule as a rule). Wouldn't this be better on BBC Four?

Was it shunted off the schedules to make way for a Scottish programme previously?

You mean on BBC One or BBC Two? Assuming the BBC programme page is accurate, that isn't the case. It was shown on BBC Two (all nations) in January 2010 and has since been on BBC Four

TG4, Ireland's answer to BBC Alba, have produced their own original documentary on Dolly Parton and show a Western film in midweek primetime.

Mind you, this strategy brought ratings to the channel they'd not attain if they put Irish language programming in the same slot.

This was even promoted by the BBC as the "musical highlight" of the month on BBC Alba.

Quote:
The musical highlight this month on BBC ALBA is Dolly Parton in Concert at the O2 Arena in London which will be shown on Saturday, 29 May, at 2100.

Perhaps it has a remit to transmit a certain percentage of music programming and this met the quota?
