I'd think that many BBC services have backups.

The question is though, was BBC World broadcasting news at the time? They could of been broadcasting a recorded programme and control could of easily been transferred elsewhere.

I wasn't here and I didn't see BBC WORLD anyway, so I don't know.

Good news William. I've just edited the BBC One music and cut the announcements.

Fortunately, I caught the 'technical hitch' early. Since they played the music two or three times, I managed to edit it perfectly.

Sounds pretty good, even though I say so myself!
And here is it - an excellent tune and quite familiar during breakdowns!

Right click here (2.5mb zip / 2mins 46secs)

With thanks to Paul.

Not going to bother a with a new thread just for this but has anyone noticed how the news went directly into Panorama, I guess this is to try to boost Panorama's currently dismal viewing figures?
I was planning to watch the programme but it's a clever ploy by the BBC.

I noticed that a few weeks ago during foot & mouth. Fiona (as Huw calls her) simply announced Panorama and we went straight into the programme. I thought they had simply run out of time so there was no room for an ident, but I noticed it was the same the week after too.
I presume this has been standard since October 2000 when Panorama changed day. Notice they have have animated Panorama astons, similar to the N24 advertising astons at the end of most news bulletins

But we're digressing!!

IMO Sunday is not the best night for this type of programme (Panorma), I want to be entertained as I contemplate Monday morning and what lies ahead.

Panorama on a Sunday night = Big switch off in Square Eyes Towers.

Sunday is not a good current affairs night IMO, no.

Thank you Paul . I used to have this music - it was used just before the Learning Zone in Summer 1998. BUT - I only managed to capture it in Mono, and these were the days when the only way to compress music to fit on a small hard drive was to reduce the res, rather than converting to MP3 - so the file has long since been deleted.

BBC World is based at TVC but at the back so it probably uses a different power supply transformer than the other BBC services like news 24 which is at the very front of TVC. I dont think it would have been terrorism because they never took all services of air when the bomb did go off in march.

as far as i can tell & found out, the problem was in an area which distributes all signals out of the building (except World).

When the power cut happened, the generators kicked in throughout the building, but for some reason failed in this particular area.

There was absolutely nothing anyone could do until electricians re-routed power

That seems to be about the size of it. Nowt sinister - the back-up generator just failed to kick in. I guess the hamster was probably asleep.

Does any one know about another BBC power-cut that happened last night? Aparantly it was about 2am and took out BBC2, UKTV Channels, and some flickering on BBC News 24...?
