But why does the BBC always have these problems?
There are power cuts in other areas of the country yet it always seems to be the Beeb!
The News 24 report did seem a bit hastily put together!
I remember when the 6 o'clock news annouced that the BBC had lost MOTD, Sky picked up on it and about 2 mins later had 2 studio guests and pictures all ready for the coverage, in comparision the BBC who had known about it for probably most of the day, only had a 1 min report on it!
But give them some credit, they cannot be expected to work wonders, if the power goes down it goes down.
I don't think that News 24 would have had much time to record any proper pictures as it was probably an all hands on deck situation.

So what's happening. Is BBC 1 now behind or what. Cause this film should have finished by now but I presume they are going to show the missed bits.

I don't understand how they managed to get up and running so quickly, and how if they didn't have any power did they manage to tape the monitors(which looked hastily placed!)

I presume the monitors were recorded at another BBC HQ, and were satellited (that's a new verb I've made! Good, eh!) to N24

Sounds to me as if it was a major power failure in the main block of Television Centre, affecting the programme distribution chains. News24 studio would have been unaffected as it is in Stage VI which has its own back up generators.

I would have thought that there would be a major inquiry into what happened. For the two main chanels to be taken off air for twenty minutes is unprecedented. I would guess this is the most serious failure since before the launch of BBC2..

Why did the back up generators not work and why did the emergency braodcast system from Birmingham not switch into action.

Right - am back and basically I couldn't find out any more than everyone else has been saying here!! Lots of my contacts seem to be out (funny, is it saturday night!) - nothing much being said but the end of the film on BBC One may have an apology although probably won't be any different from on BBC Two.

It must, I'm assuming, have been a transmission problem as News24 will not have been back on the air so soon with a power problem affecting the BBC's internal equipment - or have they just prepared better after last time!

The Sky EPG is in a right mess - none of the programmes are flicking over, and BBC TWO is apparently still running I Love 1975

Has anyone mentioned the error with the Balloon Ident before the News on BBC ONE at 8.45? The CA started talking for about 5 secs before the ident music faded up to join her. That was on BBC ONE Analogue South East

Yes, basically what I was told - there does seem to be major worries at the BBC as to how this happened. The main channels off air for so long just should not be able to happen.

BBC Choice have just broadcast a caption apologising for the break in the previous programme - first time I've seen one like that on that channel! Pre-recorded announcement, of course, though

Uk Gold have just said during the credits for Bottom:

'We appologise for the breakdown of service that SOME of our viewers may have experienced'
