With the upcoming week being Africa Week, I was wondering what are the chances that there will be a brand new ident on BBC ONE and/or BBC TWO? I believe BBC TWO Drum and Self Portrait were introduced especially for a BBC Jamaica Season so perhaps the same thing could happen again this time round. Africa Week would be a prime opportunity for another new ident all though I'm not quite sure what the theme of the ident would be.
Also, I'm sure it will be a safe bet that BBC ONE Masai will be used regularly baring in mind that it was filmed out there.
What does everyone else think?

Narrow odds, I would think. But great if it happens!

It's a tired, cliched comment but we would have had some with the BBC1 balloon or old style 2's. Now we'll just get that Afica Lives film at the beginning and then straight into the show. BBC1 will probably show those African dancers before an African season programme starts.

Well given current pres, Very unlikely!
I'm sick to death of that bloody "Africa" ident, its so narrow minded and cliche and generally CRAP!
(Winge brewing here folks)
BBC One pres is utterly appauling at the moment. I'm fed up with "Rhythm and Movement" Give me ballons any day....
I really hope this new guy will have a change around with the pres, and not, as some rumours seem to be suggesting make us wait til 2008!
(And Breathe, yes thats right, Nice and deep...)

This Africa Lives on the BBC business seems to be a bit over the top.

I mean tommorow we've got 'A Question of Sport: Africa Special' followed by 'Strictly African Dancing'

Oh please, its as if someone sat down with a list of BBC programmes, Alan Partridge style, and found a way of shoehorning Africa into the title

Actually I thought the Strictly African Dancing programme was good - I was slightly worried on the Songs of Praise: South Africa special, but tuned in anyway and that seemed alright.

Kaplinsky was unbearable though, smiling and clapping excitedly throughout the whole thing. You wouldn't think she was a serious news presenter

Quite - the whole thing is descending into the sort of preachy political correctness that Eldorado was. And we all know what became of that.

It's true that I would have expected to see the ident Maasai into most Africa Lives season programmes, simply because it fits best with the content of the programme.

It's odd however, that most of the time lately (whenever I've tuned in) every other ident (including those into the Africa programmes themselves) is Music Video - why!?

It's like BBC TWO and that annoying Sticky Label Short. Whatever happened to the long version or the other 25 idents (Both versions of each ident included)?
I noticed that Haka hasn't been used for a while. Was it used during Wimbledon considering that it is the sterotypical sport ident?

I'm really not sure how you've made the leap from a season of programmes about Africa to a crap soap set in Spain.

You do seem to have a thing about "political correctness" though. It's a horrible cliché and it makes me feel ill just writing it down. Rather than use the phrase, state what your objection to a season of programmes from Africa is, exactly.
