It seemed a bit odd to just end too, and crash into a section about a memorial? Watching on Olympics 1..so much nicer knowing there's going to be no interruptions!

So was the memorial just for the people who died in 7/7? the explanation didn't seem clear.

Was that bit with Beckham a pre-record or live stuff? Seemed quite slick to be a live slot, but I couldn't be certain either way...

Prerecorded. Could tell by the shutter speed.

Not that long ago, Sky News showed the boat, bridge and fireworks about 20 minutes beforehand as 'Latest Pictures'

Good to see Vernon Kay playing a part in the Opening Ceremony by carrying the flag for Afghanistan.

Thought so, but I'm not techy enough to know 100%. Thanks!

Are there no other personalties the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, could have used?

It always seems to be him or Stephen Mulhern! Rolling Eyes

Why, when they are in the UK do they make every announcement in English only after they've announced it in French, and not the other way around?

And the fact that Tower Bridge opened and closed in less than a minute! Tower bridge takes a good 5-10 minutes to open and close respectively.

I think the announcement which is nearer to the action is more important really. Probably better for the English language commentators.

I believe it's because the modern Olympics came about by a Frenchman, and so the announcements are in French first, then English, and then the language of the host country.

I could be wrong, so feel free to correct me.

I was told there was going to be no French translation, and the French government created a great big fuss about it. However, during Le Tour De France, nothing was translated to English. Confused

I believe the translation is only happening for the opening and closing ceremonies.

Because, no matter where you are in the world (China included) French always comes first, as it's an official IOC language.

It doesn't seem to matter that English is more widely spoken then?
