It's worth remembering some Americans are morons.

Interesting there's two page 24s - one with virtually no informatin for the Bond sequence, and another (provided afterwards) with all the details.

Yep - well they're not the host country... And if they think celebrating universal healthcare is offensive, what is editing out a tribute to those no longer with us (particularly the victims of 7/7)?

Can you imagine if the BBC had edited out a 9/11 tribute from an opening ceremony of a US games? Seriously. NBC are only interested in selling advertising spots. Nothing more. They're just selling eyeballs for adverts. The programmes are just filling the gaps.

It isn't as if they've got the excuse that they had to insert ads into a live broadcast - showing it delayed meant they could insert ads without making any cuts to the artistic programme.

Even worse, they opted out of that segment not for adverts, but for a pre-recorded interview with Phelps. And then later had the audacity to complain that the IOC hadn't requested a segment to recognise the victims of the Munich games.

Quite. I seriously can't understand how NBC can even begin to justify this. If the Beeb had done the reverse to a 9/11 tribute in a US ceremony ? Well it just wouldn't have happened - would it?.

I really enjoyed the Opening Ceremony and i think the BBC had it just right with the build up and commentary.

With NBC, seems they've had massive viewing numbers for last night. I think its terrible that of all the parts to cut out they cut out the memorial for those longer with us (which I don't think was just for 7/7 victims). It is at times like this i'm thankful we have the BBC.

I know I shouldn't generalise but there is that feeling again well if its not about Americans, not really bothered type attitude.

Nobody swore and no nipples were shown. The FCC won't have any concerns...

Although they did apparently also cut out the lesbian kiss.

So many great moments last night, loved the Industrial Revolution sequence and we all loved Mr Bean but the best bit had to be the house party, so much great music and TV clips, no idea what the world would have made of the likes of TV Burp but it's brilliant it was there. Pretty much spelled out everything I love about this country and city. Normally the athletes parade is time to make a cup of tea, but being there it was so lovely, the welcomes and warmth each country got, and I really didn't expect such a great welcome for Team GB to be included in the ceremony, with all the pyrotechnics. And lighting the flame kept us guessing right to the very end, although funnily enough the design of the cauldron was on the tickets all along, it just looked like an abstract pattern.

Spot on- such a privilege to be there last night. Before the cauldron the two 'wow' moments for me were the Bond sequence- realising it really was going to be the Queen in it- and the appearance of Ali. The opening country sequence had so much to look at before the ceremony began, as you say the transformation was tremendous- and the industrial revolution sequence was so intense. 'Abide With Me' was beautifully sung. The 'Thanks To Tim' section had an incredible soundtrack backed up with great visuals and performances. The athletes parade took a while but its vital each country gets its moment in the spotlight, and they were all given a great welcome. The final cauldron lighting was brilliantly done and it did take a while for it to dawn on me that this was it. An incredible evening to be there for.

I had a ticket in the block next to the press area, so had to take off my accreditation as the stewards thought I was trying to sit in there Wink
