Trevor Nelson is getting a tadge annoying.

Awful on F1 also, no depth very arogant

Bit of an uproar in the States because NBC couldn't broadcast it live due to not being able to do commercial opt-outs...

Trevor Nelson is on F1? Do you mean Radio 1?

Was that bit with Beckham a pre-record or live stuff? Seemed quite slick to be a live slot, but I couldn't be certain either way...

Definitely an OB from earlier on last night.

and the two other prerecorded segments were a BBC production:

Some pics of the helicopter flying through Tower Bridge last month:

(The same two helicopters were buzzing about quite a bit last Saturday, and also rehearsing yesterday afternoon)

*delurks* Love the soundtrack to the opening ceremony. Who made it?

Underworld were musical directors. iTunes posted this link on Facebook to buy it online: http://facebook.itunes.eu/4wZ

For some reason, this morning's repeat of the ceremony is on BBC Three only, despite there being a gap where it'd fit quite nicely on BBC HD. Ah well, I can watch the output of the edit suite here Smile

No time ?!!! They had a whole 95 minutes during the procession to go for commercial breaks, seeing as their coverage only ever features American athletes ?,

Prerecorded. Could tell by the shutter speed.

It's perfectly possible to apply that (awful IMHO ) effect in real time on live pictures, so it's not an indication per se of recorded material.

Of course, as pointed out, that segment was indeed recorded.

Seems like a big advert for Apple. Very Happy

It's funny how they've gone out of their way to stop people wearing branded clothes but clearly in these games the iPhones are going to be the big issue. Samsung will certainly be p!ssed!

The Tower Bridge speedboat sequence seen from near City Hall at 9.40 last night

And the helicopter sequence from a similar position (filmed on 9 June)

Notice that the Olympic rings hadn't been installed on the bridge on 9 June, but they were added in the film sequence shown last night.

Incidentally, I read that the BBC had lent an original Test Card F slide, which was going to be used somewhere in the ceremony, possibly on a big screen. Did anyone spot it?

It seemed a bit odd to just end too, and crash into a section about a memorial? Watching on Olympics 1..so much nicer knowing there's going to be no interruptions!

So was the memorial just for the people who died in 7/7? the explanation didn't seem clear.

I was there last night (it was incredible!), a few weeks ago everyone with tickets got an email from Danny Boyle asking if we'd like to send in a photo of a loved one who is no longer with us, mentioning that his Olympics-mad dad would have been 90 on the day of the ceremony and would have loved to have been there.

Nah, nah, nah... heather mills... Nah, nah, nah, nah

Bit sexist of McCartney, all the ladies now... Then didn't do the same for the blokes and got a huge boo...

Also a complete lack of singing from the crowd to Hey Jude.

Don't know how it sounded on TV, but everyone was singing along where I was. And he did all the men first, then all the ladies. Only booing I heard the whole night was when Mexican waves that were going around before the pre-show stopped when they reached the VIP/commentary positions.

Incidentally, when we were all getting our instructions on the bits we had to join in with, the pre-show host said something like "make sure you look your best, the whole world will be watching, and more importantly Sue Barker and Gary Lineker will be watching!"

So many great moments last night, loved the Industrial Revolution sequence and we all loved Mr Bean but the best bit had to be the house party, so much great music and TV clips, no idea what the world would have made of the likes of TV Burp but it's brilliant it was there. Pretty much spelled out everything I love about this country and city. Normally the athletes parade is time to make a cup of tea, but being there it was so lovely, the welcomes and warmth each country got, and I really didn't expect such a great welcome for Team GB to be included in the ceremony, with all the pyrotechnics. And lighting the flame kept us guessing right to the very end, although funnily enough the design of the cauldron was on the tickets all along, it just looked like an abstract pattern.

There were quite a few complains from people on Twitter that the viewing angles were bad from the stand and other people were obscuring their view. I was watching it on a 42inch TV in 3D and surround sound, best way IMHO. Glad I wasn't there as many are! Most people went for the common sense approach of getting tickets for the events, me included.
