It's almost all over . . . (November 2011)

302 is being all psychedelic at the mo....

If they've still got 302 space - until Wednesday - why don't they show something on it, instead of the silly Red Button video on replay.

The same animation was shown a lot overnight on 302. I believe its used on all of the red button feeds when they have nothing to show.

A complete waste if that's all they showed overnight - they really should have used it for some stuff that wasn't on Freeview during the day, notably team events involving Team GB (getting hammered!)

Out of interest did anyone on here make use of that Olympics Extra radio station? I kept on forgetting it was there.

Yes, quite often, though I never realised there was a 'morning programme' with Ian Payne before the day's live stuff started.

Throughout Monday 13th, they did an excellent 2-hour package on the best moments of the Games, lasting 2 hours and on a loop.

I listened to it as it went off-air at midnight: someone pulled the plug, and my radio showed a "station not found" message within seconds.

It must be one of the shortest-lived radio stations ever!

You'd be surprised. There are lots of short term radio stations ranging from a day to four weeks being heard on FM around the country at any given time. It's a big money raiser for Ofcom. Probably one of the shortest lived national DAB stations though though there have been quite a few on a temporary basis.

Anyone remember BBC 2002? Was an FM RSL in Greater Manchester for the Commonwealth Games in (you've guessed it) 2002, but I seem to remember it ran for a fair while before the games actually began too. Don't think it was actual coverage either, more typical BBC local output, anyone remember more?

Yes, I seem to recall it was an 'add on'station to BBC Radio Manchester (GMR in those days)

Was on 97.7 MHz from Saddleworth, city wide, same coverage as Key 103, rather than BBC Manc that uses Holme Moss, and therefore covers a larger area.

I thought BBC 2002 was AM only, anyway 97.7 is currently occupied by XFM Manchester, and in all fairness for someone who lives about 25 miles away from Manchester the signal does go quite far out into Cheshire.

XFM is on 97.7, but it was a spare allocationin 2002

On a similar but different note Digiguide quickly removed the Olympic channels completely - I assumed they'd be there until you manually deleted them (as I'm sure happened in 2008).

Reflecting on the BBC's Olympic coverage and what a wonderful event is was overall, I keep coming back to one lingering question in my mind. Perhaps trivial, but it lingers nevertheless: can anyone tell me the artist/title of the music used under this "Headlines" sequence?

Certainly on a national scale I'd say so.

RSLs can operate for anything up to 4 days for events (Glastonbury, RIAT etc)
