BBC 2012 - The Olympic Broadcaster

It's almost all over . . . (November 2011)

The BBC Olympics channels are now unsurprisingly shutting quite quickly - BBCO 13 to 24 have already concluded according to the EPG.

Wouldve been nice if theyd hung onto 2 or 3 channels, for let's say a month, to allow people to rewatch the best bits?

Or is the bandwidth required that quickly?

Well Sky have given the bandwith free-of-charge AIUI - so I suspect they'll want to restart commercial services (Sky Box Office I believe) ASAP.

That said AIUI C4 are also likely to be able to use some of the space for Paralympics coverage.

Yes they're using space and facilities normally used by the Box Office channels, they do pass through Sky but presumably they don't actually do anything to the content

They're all still up on Virgin and the EPG data runs out after Monday. I'm curious to know where Virgin got the space for them and if they will use it for anything after the games. Not that I can think of 48 channels that they could add to the system

Yep - all 48 still on-air with video at the moment on DSat as well.

Yes, I should have been clearer in my post: it's the EPG entries for 13 to 24 that state that broadcasting on those channels has concluded. They have not yet closed down.

Ahhh, I've just noticed that it does say that on Virgin too, but only if you press i and look at the synopsis

Does anyone have access to the Press Pack for the Closing Ceremony? I understand it's just been released.

According to their Twitter, C4 are using 5 streams on Sky etc. Presumably a similar agreement.

I think that includes Channel 4 and More 4 unless things have changed. No word as to whether the channels will be free to air and available through either red button or on the Freesat EPG though.

Can't quote as on my phone, but @C4Paralympics says there'll be red button on Sky/Virgin/Freesat, no idea on more info. I wonder if plans have grown on the success of the main games too.

I hope that is the case then.

It also seems C4Paralympics has retweeted a tweet from Krishnan Guru-Murthy, saying he's commentating on both opening and closing ceremonies will he be working alongside John Snow or is he doing them instead of now I wonder.
