BBC 2012 - The Olympic Broadcaster

It's almost all over . . . (November 2011)

Understandable given the current financial situation at the Beeb. Other than Christmas (and those run for nearly a month now anyway), they don't tend to commission idents to run for very short periods anymore as they don't pay for themselves that way. The football one has survived as it's quite non-specific and can be used for generic "sport" programming, a decent Olympic one would probably be restricted to this fortnight.

It isn't always a good idea: the 2000 Sydney balloon looked pretty awful and nastily superimposed on the footage, and I seem to remember it didn't last the duration of the tournament before being pulled.

Currently broadcasting a live feed we're not supposed to be seeing.

Studio overlooking the Olympic park with a room full of techies setting everything up - complete with sound!

Edit: Someone found out and it's switched to BBC News channel coverage. Are they watching us? Very Happy

Sadly they must've noticed, back to the BBC News Channel now

Sadly BBC1 won't have a special Olympics ident which is a shame considering we're in the circle era. A missed opportunity.

But then for the number of times it would be shown a day it's hardly worth it

True, but in the balloon era they made one for Sydney 2000 and for Euro 2000 as well I think. And I'd say Christmas idents are used for a shorter period of time than The Olympics..

Bit of a problem with the London 2012:Countdown to the Olympics titles on BBC ONE HD (at least). Bright yellow hue throughout - but no issues with the ident, pre-programme sting and actual programme itself.

I take it back, the exact same yellow titles (loving the green swimming pool, not) were broadcast again today at noon. They look awful.

Horrid aren't they. I'm not a fan at all of any of the BBC News presentation of the games.

As for no ident - to be honest the bikes and fans versions fit perfectly, but a real shame they're not making the most of the moment. I don't buy cost cutting considering how small a percentage it would be of their overall cost of covering the games, and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to link the brands. They could have even just gone the lazy route and somehow incorporated an Olympic ring animation (within the guidelines) into regular idents.

Not surprised but ridiculous the BBC will be taking a 90-second break in the middle of their peak time coverage ( the key events) to show ads.

Neither Sydney or the Euros had all day coverage though (Sydney's was all night of course). I suspect that you won't see many idents on BBC1 over the next 15 days, it's virtually continuous coverage

Bizzare yellowness aside, they still look like a bad mock up, complete with weird lingering shot choices and flat animation. I think *a bit more effort* could have been expected given its shared use with BBC World News.

Is the removal of the DOG on HD permanent?

Has the gold looking logo got anything to do with the Olympics?

But the BBC World version doesn't have the yellowness... it just looks like it's somehow lost the blue channel, (somewhat understandable in the component era, but not these days), except there is a little bit of it there, so it's a deliberate decision Confused
