I'll probably get an earful for asking this but what the hell. Why are the BBC using the Olympic rings in all their swipes and astons instead of the official 2012 Olympic logo?

The Olympic rings is the main brand - you will very rarely see the London logo on graphics over the next couple of weeks. If it appears at all on the astons I think it might only be for press conferences where a member of LOCOG is questioned, while all stadium banners just seem to feature the rings and "London 2012" in text - though based on previous games the official logo might be on things like the basketball court or cut into the athletics field.

Basically though the big sell is the Olympic rings - and it means when people see footage in the future it is instantly recogniseable as the Olympics, which footage dominated by a host logo wouldn't be.

What the hell was the awful sound effect with the reply wipe?

Was doing it yesterday too. Apparently the BBC are getting complaints, but of course there's nothing they can do about it.

It wasn't on GB vs NZ though, was it?

Can't the BBC put their foot down, I know it's NBC who have the most input, but there should at least be an effectless audio feed for broadcasters to use if they so wish.

I know Sky have their sound effects, but it's less intrusive than this.

When the crowd are loud, it sounds like something has been dropped on the floor.

It was, but the part of it that I can best describe as a sort of hissy/tambourine-type sound was barely audible, so you could mainly just hear the bassy thump. All the other games I've seen had the sound effect as it was tonight.

Tonight was the first time I've noticed it, but looking back on early matches you're right, it is there, just nowhere near as loud.

Is this the biggest event that BBC News, BBC Entertainment, BBC Sport - possibly the BBC as a whole have ever covered in history?

It's the event that they've covered the most I'm sure. But in terms of biggest event, I'm not sure. What about the 1966 World Cup?

I mean't resources wise, staffing, amount of live output hours across all the channels (BBC1 in particular).

This was just on Breakfast: looks great but it seems odd that they can get the BBC One logo mixed up, when the proper one is actually right next to it!

And a new 'Next' slide, I presume for the duration of the Olympics:

Can't understand why the usual layout and animation (sans red background) isn't being used on the special next slides?
