On my TV, the only way I can turn off overscan is by watching a source/channel that is 720p or 1080i/p. Samsung's is called either Just Scan or Screen Fit. Flatscreens **DO** overscan, just not as bad as some CRTs.
Scroll down to 'Selecting the correct picture size', it has a list of the different names that TV manufacturers use for overscan.
Because my Sky SD Box goes into a scart socket on my TV I can't change it to 'Just Scan'... that only works on HDMI.
However, my Sky SD box's second output also goes through a harddrive recorder which goes into the HDMI socket on my TV. When I watch the Olympic channels through the my DVD recorder and through the TV's HDMI socket, I can change it to Justscan and it sorts the problem out.
We should at least get to see what OBS do tomorrow and of course confirmation of the graphics. I'm really hoping (against hope) that satnavHD is mistaken and we do get something more like what we saw in the game.
The OBS title sequence is quite nice, in a generic sort of way. Lots of circles and lines, with a mix of live-action sportspeople and animations. It finishes with a London skyline, which resolves into a circle, then turns into the OBS logo.
Speaking of which here is the title sequence
Seemed longer than 20 seconds on the football earlier. It's very nice, but I agree very generic. Amazing though how in such a short time that the London Eye really has become an emblem for the city.
The OBS graphics are nice enough and if we hadn't been teased by those ones from the game I'd have no complaints. Even if they'd given these a purple tint rather than blue they'd fit the London brand a bit more.
A new edit then of the extended ad for the BBC titles - with a version with the vocal used. Love the BBC studio, but really disapointed with the on screen graphics - I just don't think they're special enough and again the bright yellow doesn't seem to fit the occasion.
Got the Radio Times today (at £1.40 thanks to Tesco online!) and do wonder if the 24 channels is perhaps too much choice and whether viewers would find 6-8 streams of the pick of the action more useful, though I guess if the BBC keep their multiscreen they can put the pick of the action on there and have the best of both worlds. Nothing special at all from the red button - just the same old bland grey design on Freeview, though Freeview HD has a new yellow banner at the bottom for switching channels (no text pages), something I suspect might be replicated on the Sky channels. Unfortunately though it also means we now have press red prompts to remove in HD too.
The red button on Sky is pretty good, looks very similar to the connected TV app and has things I've not seen on the red button before, like a little progress bar showing how far along each event has gone.
Nice to see there is a hint of the diagonal line look in the OBS graphics, but overall they're not anything like as nice as what was used in the videogame. I'd say it's another subtle evolution of the design like they do every two years, but there's nothing subtle about those flags!
