BBC 2012 - The Olympic Broadcaster

It's almost all over . . . (November 2011)

The cubes are horrific in that trailer.

If you're going to turn your logo into 'three dimensional boxes of wonder and fascination and quality broadcasting' you're going to have to come up with something better than a cheap feather effect on some stock footage over the three white cubes.

It looks ugly as sin. Very disappointing.

Also agree that the BBC logo shouldn't be in neon pink or orange, it looks cheap.

Surely they could have come up with something better to represent 'brand new comedy' than Absolutely Fabulous?

Ironic that a trailer that obviously is trying to reflect the Beebs great heritage, together with new material for this year, featured both a Top of the Pops neon sign as well as a prominent Blue Peter logo. Both great programmes that the BBC have treated shabbily and clearly don't want to be seen on BBC One anymore.

Thought the very same; sad indictment?

The BBC has recorded an Ab Fab Olympics Special for July.

I might be interpreting this wrong but looks like BBC News will be based in the Orbit Tower for the Olympics. At least the view out means the ugly thing won't be in shot!

The plan is for presenters in the main studio in the Olympic Park to throw to venue-specific presenters in the main stadium and the velodrome. BBC News meanwhile, fronted by Huw Edwards, who will present the opening ceremony, will provide coverage from the top floor of a tower block overlooking the Olympic Park.

They might just have a standard live OB presenting point, but if they could have their own little studio in the tower (next to the Olympic stadium) for the BBC1 bulletins that would be pretty amazing.

No such luck - the tower block in question is Lund Point, just outside the boundary of the Olympic Park.

I read that completely wrong then - and I knew about that tower block too. Very Happy

Interesting, but does this really need saying?

Yes, the idea as I understand it is that a there are a couple of tower blocks which are empty and due to be demolished and they're being used as temporary TV studios with views of the Olympic Park. My understanding is that the BBC have taken some/all of one and will use a floor or two and sublet out space on other floors to other broadcasters.

I don't know where ITN and Sky will be but I believe that some TV companies are taking space in the top of the new Westfield shopping centre next to the Olympic Park

Nobody is using the Big Breakfast house then? Sad

Should be quite nice, once they've managed to remove any squatters, disposed of all the spent needles, and fumigated the place, oh and checked the roof for any pirate radio kit still in use !
