A bit misleading I think. For the EastEnders publicity team to imply it was a real part of the torch relay is one thing, but for the BBC News Channel to do it is quite another.

Although it was funny when they did an interview later telling Billy he was a fictional character. The whole EastEnders set imploded.

What time dId that happen?

I can't remember, but it's not on the live restart.

I know this has been discussed previously, but I'm now looking at next week's Radio Times and I've just got annoyed about it again. BBC Two's daytime schedule is filled with repeats of BBC One's daytime rubbish during the Olympics - hours and hours of Cowboy Trap, Cash in the Attic, Flog It! etc. Would it really have been so awful to give BBC Two over to Olympic coverage, even just until CBBC begins at 3pm? I know the daytime stuff "offers an alternative to the Olympics", but could the BBC really not just argue that these Olympics are a once-in-a-lifetime event, and realise that there are other channels showing alternative programming?

What has changed in the last 20 years? In the 1980s and 1990s the BBC regularly broadcast hours and hours of sports coverage simultaneously on BBC One and BBC Two during big events - at a time when there were only two other free-to-air channels. Nowadays, most viewers who don't like sport have a choice of dozens of other channels to watch. Is it really that big a deal for two weeks?

Ah . . . anyway. Sorry for the rant. I'll not be watching much of it anyway - I'm off to the Games today. I trust all of you will keep the Forum well updated with images, videos and info on all the coverage! Happy Olympics!

Totally agree, that is ridiculous

BBC2 during the Olympics is a kind of merged version of 1 and 2, I suppose it's to keep the regular viewers of BBC1 daytime happy. It's not as if it's replacing any regular programmes.

Let me let you into a little secret.... you may dismiss it as daytime rubbish but people do watch it!

They still do during Wimbledon. I don't see a problem personally - there's BBC1 and 3 and at least 2 other channels showing the games. A large proportion of the audience will have 26 TV channels of it plus 2 radio ones..... they don't need BBC2

Yes, digital wasn't around 20 years ago. So surely there was more reason in 1992 for the BBC to avoid showing sport on BBC One and BBC Two at the same time - when there was only ITV and Channel 4 as an alternative. In 2012, there's a proliferation of other channels so there should be less harm in using One and Two for sport at the same time.

And yes, a large proportion of the audience will have access to the 26 extra channels. But there's also a big massive chunk of the population called Freeview viewers who are missing out. An extra few hours of coverage on BBC Two each day would help to rectify that.

Lets not forget that aprt from the swimming finals the first week of the Games are actually quite boring! The real overlap and need for so much coverage really only kicks in from Friday 03 August. Is there really a need for dedicated channels for dressage, Greco-Roman Wrestling, Fencing etc? These are very much minority interest events within the UK.

I'm just being devils advocate BTW Razz

Are the BBC having trouble with their SCAR system today where it's already on overload. Just seen a second live OB go down today on the BBC News Channel with a SCAR fault caption come up and switch to a different OB site, seemingly of its own accord.

It's only happening because it's a home Olympics.

Yes, that would seem to be the case. Can anyone explain to me why Tiddly-Winks played at the Olympics(TM) here, should be more compelling, and therefore worthy of a whole satellite channel, than them being played at the Olympics(TM) in Beijing or Rio ????

EDIT: Feed restored, 4 loops of it and I didn't get to capture a single one of it! Ah well I'll buy it when it's released
