It's almost all over . . . (November 2011)

Yes I looked yesterday and the commentary free version will be on Olympics 1, as well as the AD version on Olympics 2 (IIRC)

Is this the first time a UK broadcaster has attempted AD on a live broadcast?

The live EastEnders didn't have AD on it's live showing but did when it was broadcast again as part of EastEnders Omnibus. I imagine the latest live Coronation Street was the same.

Will the AD person be live or will someone just trigger pre-recorded audio when each predetermined event happens on screen? Maybe a mixture of both, so as well as pre-recorded things like "Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards lights the Olympic cauldron" they will also need someone (ideally the same person) to think on their feet and say things like "Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards is pushed to the ground by a naked man with Fathers 4 Justice written on his back", whilst not interrupting Hugh Edwards, who will presumably still be doing commentary on the AD version too.

The AD version should be an interesting watch/listen.

So how will the AD person work around Eastenders when it's a pre-record then jumps into Live when Perry Fenwick is carrying the torch?

My guess is that there just won't be AD on the live bit but they will have complete AD on the repeat showing. On the other hand, this could be their rehearsal for the Opening Ceremony.

The subtitles are always interesting too, they will follow the script, but will the actors?

Am I the only person quite enjoying skipping through each of the Olympic channels after each line of that Elbow song?

No? Just me? Ok, fine.

Got to say though, I think the BBC should have brought Going For Gold for a series seeing as the first series was a trip to the Seoul Olympics.

Think it would have fitted in quite well with London hosting the Olympics.

No just me?? OK fine.... Very Happy

Oh and the timing of the Challenge repeats can't be coincidental, I'm sure...

What a waste of time, surely no one is going to use this when they could just change channel manually. Also, the sound doesn't work on my TV. Whatever channel I press red on, BBC One or BBC HD, is the only channel I get sound on. If I turn it over manually the sound works fine.

It's almost as if it would have helped putting it up a few days before the games begin specifically to iron out issues like that.

Oh, hang on...

The view from the BBC studio is great, you can see right across to the City and The Shard.

Maybe they should rethink that move to Broadcasting House?

As seen in the little hints we had before, lots of wood. Nice desk which, along with the lines on the floor, very slightly references the 2012 branding. Looks like a screen is due to be mounted on the right hand side.
