Nope, the 'olympic' name alone would be enough to kick off legal action.

Really? I expect EastEnders took advice from the BBC's legal department. The fact that the rings don't interlink and are different colours to the official logo probably helps their case too.

Oh I thought you meant if it was set in real life. The BBC will be fine with that as they are the official broadcaster anyway. I thought you meant if a real bar was going to open under that branding then they would be stopped as soon as they added 'Olympic' to the title.

Don't be silly, that would have nothing to do with television presentation.

It was fun to drive behind one of them on the ring road whilst they rehearsed filming the relay from the van- those blocks of wood were very convincing Wink

When I saw them, they'd just made one of their 'torches' more realistic by adding some plastic 'flames' to the top of it Smile

I do hope the 'flames' moved from one torch to another Very Happy

They obviously added that after I saw them- or had realised it didn't really add to the 'simulation'!

Olympic is simply an adjective meaning "of Olympia / Olympus".

Any legal team worth their salt should be able to argue that the Olympic Games do not have a monopoly on that word.

Or such legal teams would pressure the UK government to introduce laws harsher than any other copyright/IP law to protect the Olympics specifically. As they did.

A few days old, this, but I don't think it's been mentioned - more details of the English Regions torch shows, particularly who will be presenting:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2012/olympic-torch-relay.html

Mainly seems to be a regional presenter paired up with a former Olympian, with a few exceptions such as John Inverdale hosting a couple of them.

Looking at the press release from today's launch, not much on there that hasn't been already announced, except this one thing (as far as I know, we previously though Gabby finishing at midnight would be the end of the day's coverage):

Quote:
Gabby Logan will bring together the sport and late-night events from across the UK from 2240-midnight. Dan Walker will close the day from 0015-0100 with Olympic Sportsday.

Daily BBC One schedule:

0600 Olympic Breakfast With Hazel Irvine and Bill Turnbull or Chris Hollins and Sian Williams.
0900 Olympics 2012 With Mishal Husain in the studio and Matt Baker, Clare Balding, Jonathan Edwards, Jake Humphrey and John Inverdale at the venues.
1130 Olympics 2012 With Matt Baker, Clare Balding or Hazel Irvine.
1300 BBC News, Regional news Olympics coverage switches to BBC Two.
1345 Olympics 2012 With Clare Balding, Jake Humphrey or Hazel Irvine.
1600 Olympics 2012 With Sue Barker.
1800 BBC News, Regional news Olympics coverage switches to BBC Two.
1900 Olympics 2012 With Gary Lineker.
2200 BBC News, Regional news Olympics coverage switches to BBC Two.
2240 Olympics Tonight With Gabby Logan.
0000 There's a 15-min gap here, no indication of what it's for. BBC News maybe.
0015 Olympic Sportsday With Dan Walker.
0100 Presumably BBC News channel all night.

Great to see the ability to rewind coverage, as well as chapter markers and added statistics.

This technological feat by the BBC on the many platforms it is reaching is to be applauded.

Hopefully this marks an added momentum for the sorts of new ideas we can expect see on their websites, in their video streams and coverage on mobile and tablet apps in the future.

Also great to see Mishal Husain with 09:00-11:30 slot.
