It's almost all over . . . (November 2011)

Would I be correct in thinking that BBC Local Radio could do special coverage when the torch is in their respective areas.

The reason I ask is that the torch is in my neck of the woods on the 30th June(In fact the torch comes down my road!).

Am I likely to see any local radio teams in convoy with the torch people?

There'll be a BBC bus following it all around with a radio studio in it, for each local station to use when its in the area: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2012/torch-relay.html

Quote:
Mornings will start with Olympic Torch Live Breakfast programmes from each Local Radio station, as the Olympic Torch Relay begins. These outside broadcasts will come from our BBC Olympic Torch Relay Bus.

Listeners who come to the Bus can have the chance to meet their local presenters and share their stories of the Olympic Torch Relay. Listeners will also have the opportunity to enjoy an interactive Torch-themed experience and post a good luck message to Team GB.

Throughout the day there will be comprehensive coverage of the Torch from reporters posted along the route. Their live updates will capture and convey the excitement and celebrations of all the significant moments as the Torch Relay passes through.

The BBC Olympic Torch Relay Bus will be at most of the weekday evening celebrations, where BBC Local Radio programmes will give a live commentary on the lighting of the cauldron; interview special guests and the day’s Torchbearers and hear stories from people involved in the day’s events.

As for the torch relay - I was chatting to some of the guys fitting out the OB vans that'll be covering it. They're just a pair of converted people-carriers, but full of all sorts of interesting technology: self-deploying dishes; wireless mesh networks; radio cam receivers; 3G nodes; video servers. Though maybe I'd best not say any more until they officially announce the coverage plans. Smile

It was fun to drive behind one of them on the ring road whilst they rehearsed filming the relay from the van- those blocks of wood were very convincing Wink

Converted vans more than people carriers really, if we're being picky Very Happy

When I saw them, they'd just made one of their 'torches' more realistic by adding some plastic 'flames' to the top of it Smile

Rather impressive promo on BBC World News running at the minute.

Interesting range of channel logos at the bottom, I've never seen international cross promotion like that.

It's vague enough not to include the Olympics too much - none of those outlets (with the possible exception of the World Service) will actually be allowed to show any Olympics coverage

Has it been confirmed or otherwise if we'll be seeing special presentation outside of the Olympics coverage? Idents and general presentation, as well as news presentation (like how it changed for 2000 Today)? I'll be honest, I'm surprised we haven't seen more already - how long were the Olympic rings featured on BBC1 trailer endboards back when it was those ghastly red shutter effect things 8 years back?

I guess the BBC HD referred to is the international version (which will be Olympics free) rather than the domestic version! (Which will be a BBC Three simulcast I imagine for Olympics stuff?)

Good trailer for the summer though - jubilee and loads of stuff surrounding the Olympics that the Beeb will cover. Let's hope it gives London loads of great publicity internationally and is remembered for the right reasons.

I'm surprised there has been no mention of this...

Just different enough from the official logo not to upset Sebastian Coe?

Nope, the 'olympic' name alone would be enough to kick off legal action.

Really? I expect EastEnders took advice from the BBC's legal department. The fact that the rings don't interlink and are different colours to the official logo probably helps their case too.

Not for the BBC it wouldn't, different rules apply for sponsors or rights holders than they do for the rest of us
