Thanks thegeek, I didn't realise the extent to which regular broadcast news would be affected by the Games, but of course it will be the big story of the day most days.
In Beijing quite a bit of ITV News was anchored from Beijing, though not necessarily the top story. The BBC had Huw Edwards out there doing the ceremony commentary (unfortunately) and some bulletins too, but IIRC he came back to the UK for a period.
I'd expect all BBC1 bulletins to be anchored on location during the games unless a major non-Olympic story breaks (it'll be just our luck for the Queen to snuff it on the 27th or something!) - though what happens with the news channel remains to be seen. Personally I'd keep them studio bound with the sports reporter on location.
I'm kind of the opposite - unconvinced by Elbow's theme tune (but there's plenty of time to get used to it before Games, and it's only a part of the theme being used so far) but love the animation.
Hmmm strange for Dublin to be lit up! Somehow I don't think the BBC is the 'Official Broadcaster' for the ROI....
We're part of the torch relay too, apparently. RTÉ will have the Irish rights, though I'm not sure what their coverage plans are - for Barcelona 92 they went so far as to rename Network 2 "The Olympic Network" with a special ident, but they've never quite gone that far since. RTÉ appear not to believe in the Red Button and there are restrictions as to what they are allowed do with their digital channels, so whatever they do will probably be confined to RTÉ Two and/or RTÉ Online.
In any event, you can bet that a large portion of the Irish viewing public will be watching on the BBC, for events not of specific Irish interest at any rate.
Absolutely love that - though if it is the theme used for the BBC coverage I hope they don't burn it out (no pun intended) before the games even begin. Notice though there is nothing scheduled for the lighting of the Olympic flame in Greece next Thursday - it deserves to be a bit more than just BBC News rolling coverage.

I don't think we'll get bored of this. This is just a teaser. I'm sure there's much more to come. Including, of course, the lyrics themselves.
