They had a quick graphic apologising for it. It has improved a little but not much at all. Are the clip-on microphones not working and are they using the 2 on the desk?

Went for a few seconds and got worse. Very intermittent. And volume keeps on altering. Poor effort on the sound front.

Can't get the iPlayer working but have seen some caps of the graphics used at the event and wondering if they'll be the style of the main broadcast graphics for the games - basically a mixture of white on purple and purple on white - with a bit of pink thrown in and the London 2012 font for headings and a more standard font for the bulk of info.

Unlikely. For a start, it would be a major departure from the graphics they've been developing over the last 12 years. The graphics today were at a LOCOG event, probably knocked up by someone in their marketing department, the host broadcast graphics will be designed by the same team at OBS as previous events.

I was thinking the same thing.

Those graphics in no way reassemble TV sports graphics. Having said that folks said the same about the logo as well.

I've also got a feeling the graphics won't be too different from previous games.

Out of interest, what are peoples views on the logo now and have they changed since when you first saw it.

I wasn't sure at first, but thought I'd probably get be more excepting come the time. Now I couldn't imagine or want anything else.

It's grown on me but that's probably because I've been subjected to seeing it everywhere all the time. Not sure what the rest of the world will think about it now given that they won't have been force-fed it quite as much.

I do very much like the accompanying font though.

It still baffles me that when the logo was revealed Sebastian Coe (or whoever it was at the press conference) said something along the lines of the logo being designed to be used after 2012, something about it being able to be reused (specifically) on baseball caps and lunchboxes for years to come, apparently separating it from past Olympic logos. It was just a totally senseless statement, especially given that the logo is specifically designed to emphasise "2012".

I think the logo works a lot better now we've seen the rest of the branding. As mentioned, the 2012 font is pretty good (incidentally, always used alongside Futura as seen in that screencap) and I really like the use of the criss-crossed diagonal lines in background graphics. It's a great contrast to the swirls, curves and natural colours of Beijing.

Agree, though, that it's unlikely we'll see anything other than a development of the on-screen graphics that have been evolving since Sydney.

I'd personally be happy with BBC Sport graphics and the natural black and yellow colouring rather than pink and what not. I'm more wondering on what the OBS graphics will look like, I would not mind the same type as used in Beijing, as they were a massive step upwards from those in Athens.

The BBC Spot Blog has a new post on it, talking about BBC staffing at the Olympics.

One thing that caught by eye is "News presentation, including 24-hour-a-day news on all platforms at home and abroad". Do you think this is sports news (ie. the stuff currently from the 'sport centre') or actual BBC News having a permanent/semi-permanent presentation function or anchor on the Olympics site?

Might be reading too much into it.

I would take that to mean that there will be lots of news coverage from the Olympics, including on the 24-hour news channels; not necessarily that all news will be broadcast from the site.

the Nationals will have a home in the widely-reported tower block studio, and I believe that some News Channel and some World output will come from here too.
Olympic Breakfast will be a Sport production, and I think it's going to come from the main sport studio.

Thanks thegeek, I didn't realise the extent to which regular broadcast news would be affected by the Games, but of course it will be the big story of the day most days.
