BBC 2 Rebrand confirmed

Anyone who missed it (The thread about the rumour seems to have vanished but maybe it's my eyes) The Sunday Times 'culture' magazine ran a feature on the rebrand of BBC 2 and showed a clip from the new ident. Big news, the Big Two definitely stays.

The Big 2 was bright yellow and 3D in the still they showed. It was underwater, with bubbles coming out of it and frightening away some fish (which were v realistic and looked excellent-possibly Mackerel but I'm not great at these things)

The logo featured was a small BBC logo with the word TWO much bigger underneath, all of which was on a blue square - I've seen this used by some newspapers on their TV listings so I think this was probably just added by the magazine to turn the film still they had from Lambie-Nairn into a mock ident. Assuming the BBC TWO logo stays the same only moved a bit, I think I'm going to like these new idents.

I'm quite happy that the current 2's are going - the new ones are seem better!

i hope someone sets their video for the 1st showing at 7.00am - (i would but mines broke). shame the current lot are going, but at least the big 2 will live on.

for the record, the last of the current idents shown was Swan, at closedown (the woman did a nice closedown too) - the end of an era really, blade was shown this evning too.

does anyone know if english variations have been made (eg. Midlands, South etc.) of the new ones?

Umm... no, the BBC Two idents are only being scrapped on the 18th of November, which is next week, so you will just have to wait!

are we sure about that rob, i was told the 12th or the 17th so it could be.

They were originally scheduled to be introduced on the 5th November, but Mr Lambie Nairn was a bit late in delivering the goods, so now the new idents will appear next Monday morning.

thats fine by me - i wouldnt care if the ients didnt change at all.

The old idents are still here! I was up at 7.00am to see if they had a new look, but they didn't.

NEXT MONDAY! (November 19th)

When the BBC TWO and BBC ONE idents were introduced, the BBC sent info to newspapers, with proportions for how the ONE and TWO should appear BENEATH the BBC boxes, if that's how the publication used it.

They displayed them with pantone colours to be used. Orangey for BBC1, cyanish (IIRC for 2)

Cleverly, they realised that anyone replacing the old logos would probably have a squarish, or 4:3 space, which this fitted.

I don't think I've ever seen the BBC use that format on screen until now, though.

It looks like the new ident follows those 1997 guidelines.

Are they going to leave ONE with its present format, while TWO changes? Bizarre. Unlike the corporate-image-fascism to which the BBC has adhered for so long.

I personally think that the new ident looks excellent. Im tired of seeing Blade, Paint, Water & Neon all the time. I know they were brilliant & like all 90 odd idents but the 2 is staying & this complete revamp is needed if the 2 is to still stay fresh. Guaranteed thoguh Blade will still bloody continue though
