BBC 2 logos that should go

No, I think the actual grey cut-out 2 turned around a little. But that didn't make it any more exciting.

Of all the possible colours, what made the graphic designers think GREY?

'Oh, I know, that ident would look really dazzling with a nice shade of pure grey'

If you look at the original set, the colours are pretty dark. This may have been so that the change from the very plain 'TWO' to the 2's wasn't that major!

If you look through the years of the Christmas ones, it goes from the dark, yet classy early ones to the more fun, friendly and bright ones of recent.

And yes, Firecracker was my favourite as well!

Does anyone know whether in the 'Dog' ident, if the 2 goes off screen or just carries on yapping?

Also, can anyone help with this problem:

Recently mentioned on MHP was the idea of a 'news' BBC Two ident (although it would probably only get wheeled out for Newsnight these days) Anyway, I've knocked up a 2 ident in Macromedia Flash with the corporate colours in the background etc. etc. When I export it as an AVI, it plays fine in Windows Media Player but when I import it into another program (i.e. Animation Shop), half of each frame is in the wrong place. Taking 'Compress video' off doesn't seem to work and exporting it as another file (i.e. BMP) makes the colours look terrible. Any idea what's up with it?

A programme about the 2? Was it an OU Graphic Design programme or something? There's a lot of us here who would love to have seen that!

It wasnt a OU programme, it was either a night dedicated to it, or a programme - i'm 70% sure it was a programme.

It showed how the idents were designed, filmed, edited, how the music was made etc.

I thought it was an excellent programme, perhaps BBC 2 should think about repeating it (they repeat everything else), mind you this programme is going back about 2 or 3 years now.

TV Home will have a clip from 'TV Revealed' with a bit on the BBC Two idents, which mentions 'there are 3 websites dedicated to all things 2 and some of the more popular ones even receive fan-mail' - was this the one?

it was where they showed how the paint ident was made.

How they tipped the camera and the 2 on its side to get the paint effect.

Was that 'How Do They Do That'? in about 1995? They also showed how the then-new Steam and Diary idents were made, and how the soundtracks for Silk and Firecracker were recorded.

Remember the program, it wasn't a full program, I'm pretty sure it was on How do they do that?
Asa, if you just export it as a flash file, most people have flash - especially if they're Ident enthusiasts because MHP and others use it so much.

And, I agree, firecracker was the best
