BBC 2 logos that should go

Over the past 10 years BBC 2 has had about 100 big 2 logos taht include theme nights, xmas, etc. However below is a list of ones I think they should get rid of as they look too out of date (animation wise)

Blade
Powder
Paint
Water

Also ones that should return

Copper Cut out
Silk
Firecracker

Plus any ideas of new ones?

I prefer the older 2's to the more modern ones. I think of the oldies, Paint, Blade, Water, Optic and Powder should stay, Neon should definitely go (never liked it) and Silk and Steam should be brought back. The fact that some of the idents have lasted ten years prove that just because they're old doesn't mean they're no longer any good.

The older idents have bigger 2's now. This is because they have been zoomed in so widescreen can work. I think the BBC took some of these older idents off because they would not work in widescreen i.e. some of the 2 was cut off so I doubt they will come back. Talking of the 2 idents - has the kebab one been taken off? I've not seen that one for ages. Personally I think that they should take the old ones off and put new ones on though. Think they are running out of ideas though - the Excalibur one is very similar to a couple of the others.

At least they got rid of those really poor ones, like

The 2 is brilliant, and the possibilities for new idents are endless. There could be all sorts of new ones...

Kids flying a 2 shaped kite

a 2 shaped bon fire

a bloke chiseling away at a cliff face, a chunk of rock falls off, revealing a 2 inbedded into the rock

a 2 shaped cloud floating in the sky, leaving a shadow on the feilds below

fluffy 2 sitting in front of a warm fire, the dog sits next to it, and the 2 roars at the dog, and it runs off whimpering

a cobweb in the shape of a 2 (this may already exist??)



The great thing about the 2 is that it will never go out of fashion - its almost a national institution. Theres even a fanclub for the little thing (aww bless!)

They should definitely bring back Steam, Copper Cutout and Firecracker. And Diary too - that was classy. And the water one should be replaced with the original 'reflection' variation - I found a few examples of this on tape recently and it's amazing how much that little reflection improves it, it has a much livelier feel to it.

I don't think much of Excalibur, I'm afraid - very much the Glass of the current set, a nice idea and technically well executed but it still just looks crap on screen. And they should use Paint Pot less - it's a nice visual pun but is seen too often to have the right impact.

And they should bring back Scary! That was great!

Sorry to bother you all,but what WAS Paper cut-out?

I heard that Firecracker isn't used very often now (if at all) because it is the one symbol where the TWO is destroyed, and the powers that be in Pres thought that this now wasn't suitable as the TWO was established as a character rather than an object...

I personally really quite like a lot of the original set - especially original Paint, Neon, and Copper. Of the new ones I think Swan is pretty cute, and I still laugh out loud at the jumping dog one (not sure what it's called)

Weird! I wouldn't have said the '2' is a character in a lot of the current set. Sometimes it is (most obviously, Swans), but in most of them it's just a solid (or hollow) 2.

The odd thing about this is that if you ask people who are just ordinary viewers and not pres fanatics about their favourite versions, Firecracker comes up a *lot*. It's easily among the most popular with the general public. Many people don't even realise it's not used anymore.
