That's one thing that Pebble Mill always had over the other regions. They would play the standard 1, 6 and 10 clocks off tape if it was on time or thereabouts but if the Ten was delayed till a later time (as it often was during the World Cup) then BBC Midlands had their own version of the clock generator (albeit in 4:3) and used to generate it live. It was a very nice touch and always appeared very sharp and looked a LOT nicer than playing off tape.

Presumably this clock generator was available in Pebble Mill as it was installed as part of Pebble Mill's presentation backup facilities. (BBC Birmingham is (was?) the location that BBC Presentation evacuate to if TVC is unable to reliably broadcast)

Yep, believe that's the reason. Although of course Birmingham are being taken out of the loop when it comes to network back-up - I believe London is going to take over (seperate from TVC) this duty? Pebble Mill still have the network programmes cached to them (I think) so that if staff did have to operate from there, all recorded programmes could be played out.

Ahh! Terrible.
Since when has the BBC News not started rite on the dot. It appears the days of the BBC telling us the time have gone! The news didnt start until about 22.00:30. Terrible! they definately need a clock!

Even worse tonight with the 10 not starting until 22:01:00. ITV News at Ten's permanent lateness is lamentable, with the channel putting commercial interests before public service. The BBC has no excuse following suit - seems they are using the clock's demise to sneak in bad practice through the back door.

The digital delay compared to analogue in my house is barely anything.

I was standing in my hallway yesterday and was listening to the news from the analogue television, and just 1 second later the same words would come out through the digital television in the living room.

Are they at least trying to find a solution to the delay? Or is it just an unavoidable evil in digital broadcasting?

That seems a bit of a stupid thing to do. One of the advantaged of Birmingham is it is out of the city and therefore is less likely to go down at the same time.

So what happens if Pebble Mill goes down aswell? Does it go to Glasgow?
