It is a shame that the clocks have gone on BBC1 and people have expalined why for all the right reasons... now while the news does begin on time 99% of the time on this occasion is was late as Spooks which ran before was 59.30 in duration and could not start till 2100 exactly as it had very violent scenes deemed unsuitable before the watershed.. hence with a junction afterwards the pres department could not get to the news on time - and god forbid - the trail messages are dropped for the sake of the news starting on time!!!
I guess its less obvious now - it did happen with a clock - we often went at 30 sec past nine!!!!

A handy guide newsbeat...

The 'headline thingy' is on the right. It did start on the 10 at relaunch, but wasn't onscreen with Huw as with the 1 & 6 and as it is now, it was alongside the reporter aston as the report started. It was a bodge - typical 10 trying to put their stamp on things - and has rightly been dropped.

sorry for the term dumbing down everyone, just seemed to fit right. The headline thingy on the right of the screen wasnt adopted on the 10 o'clock until just recently.

Very interesting. I assume there's guidelines then in that those scenes definitely couldn't be shown before 9pm exactly ? And were those scenes right from the start for the first minute or so? After all, who exactly would complain? People would surely just look at their clock and say "oh well, it's around 9pm, must be watershed time". It's definitely a different issue to a certain promo appearing at 7.30 in the evening.
I did like the anno on Monday with the "EXACTLY Ten O'Clock" - maybe they had BBC One on and noticed they were still running trails
And I don't think there's an argument whatsoever over time delay being the reason - I'm sure analogue BBC One Scotland always ran a couple of seconds late. No-one bat an eyelid. It's all down to Lorraine Heggessey - she believed the balloon idents were slow, the clock never had a chance!

Unless, that is, the pre-news ident you mention is a clock - nobody knows yet, else you'd have updated your info.

Probably still catching up from the appeal at about seven o'clock (see this thread) which glitched and then jumped backwards a few minutes.

In this case it would have done - and did. The News was delayed tonight, I believe, as a result of the appeal programme scheduled at the last minute. Previously, even in the days of the clock, the Ten (or the Nine before) has gone on-air late as a result - and the clock showed this.
One of the main arguments for the losing the clock in recent years was, of course, the lack of accuracy when the clock + anno became a regional opt... In most regions the clock was replayed from VT or server, rather than being generated live, so could easily be wrong if it was played early or late. It wasn't unheard of for the One Clock to be shown at Six in some regions...

They were late again today, by almost 1 and a half minutes, is this a new regular occurance? It wouldn't have happened in the days of the clock!
