Ahh! Terrible.
Since when has the BBC News not started rite on the dot. It appears the days of the BBC telling us the time have gone! The news didnt start until about 22.00:30. Terrible! they definately need a clock!
They've also adopted the caption thingy at the bottom now, something I thought was only for the One and Six.

Could you clarify which of those two points show a "Dumbing Down" as indicated in the thread sub-title?

Do you know that the ITV News at Ten starts dead on 10 every Monday thesedays!

Yes, the announcer even told us tonight, that it was "EXACTLY Ten O'Clock". ITV News was well into it's first story tonight whilst BBC were in the headline sequence.

Thats only because John Suchet is impeccable, had Trevor been on he would have still been putting his false teeth in at 10.
I agree about the BBC though, getting worse, slowly but surely, month by month. That welsh git Edwards is an awful presenter. The Six O Clock News pairings leave a lot to be desired and Anna is becoming rarer and rarer on the One O Clock News. ITV News has a decent set of presenters, just a shame about Trevor.
I agree that the 10 should start at exactly 10, and there should be a clock, but the side bar's OK (if its on the 1 and 6 it should be on the 10) and more importantly these two things don't anount to dumbing down.
On the contrary, I think the 10 has 'dumbed up', Huw Edwards is excellent, the whole pace of the programme is like a news bulletin not a 'show' as the 6 seems to have become, and the content is just right.
I agree that the 10 should start at exactly 10, and there should be a clock.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the reason the BBC no longer use a clock into the news because on digital platforms, due to the delays in the transmission paths, it's likely to be 2 or 3 seconds slow by the time the viewer sees it?
I think this was also the reason they stopped using cue-dots to tell live programmes when they were due to go on air.

Surely they could easily rectify this.
Play out a clock which is 2 seconds fast on both analogue & digital, artificially delay analogue so it goes out the same as digital, and just send out digital as normal.
You should then get analogue & digital in perfect synch and with the clock spot on.
