Was listening to Steve Wright's show on Radio 2 on Friday afternoon and happened to record the audio of the BBC 1 Salsa ident being cut to and played out after a song. Laughing

Clip here

I thought only Presentation had clean copies of the BBC 1 idents - why would Radio 2 have them, especially Steve Wright? Confused

Would also be great if someone knew what the song was before the ident - I was going to upload the clip and ask what song it was! The song is used as the title music in the BBC1 programme about bailiffs as well.

Song is Steve Harley & The Cockney Rebels - (Come Up And See Me) Make Me Smile.

Steve Wright does use the BBC1 idents for his show. He usually does a little bit of "coming up tonight on BBC TV."

It's a nice touch, and he used to do it with the old BBC1 balloon too.

Obviously what happened is that it got played out by mistake at the wrong point in the show.

Steve Wright is one of those DJs you just know is an anorak. He loves the jingles and such - I remember once, one of the contestants was from the Isle of Man, and Steve Wright started singing some jingles from an Isle of Man radio station.

Another closet anorak DJ is Chris Moyles - he also loves his jingles.

I think our very own Nicky Schiller loves his jingles too. Although he's not a DJ. Whether he is closeted or not I really don't know, but as soon as I can take him out for a drink I'm sure he'll tell me.

Oh yes.

Having seen him in Manchester with the BBC News roadshow and his Europride entrance 'bracelet' cheerfully on view (and the fact that he mentioned going onto Canal Street with a group of colleagues) suggests he's not closeted.

unless you mean closted regarding his jingle/ident interest, which I also doubt.

Anyway, Gavin, I'm feeling jealous now - can't I share some of this attention? Wink

Well for what it's worth, I meant closeted jingle fan. But Gavin, AS USUAL, has taken the forum to another level altogether. And I'm outraged. I am also a jingle fan, and there are no closets involved anywhere.

Only the ones full of carts of BBC Radio Essex jingles, eh DAS? Just next to the one with all your skeletons in.

Funnily enough, I'm after some BBC Essex jingles at the moment. But I'm digging a hole of sad anorakiness here, so I'll stop.

I thought Moyles was quite openly a jingle anorak - didn't he have some trouble for playing the mid 80's Jam package when Radio 1 didn't have a license for them at one point?

Yes, I think so. He also talks about how he flicks between regional news on Sky - but never goes that far as to say he is an anorak.

I think that as the only Radio 1 DJ to have sung jingles and play the GTS pips it's fairly conclusive though
