Thought I'd post this clip from BBC 1 NI tonight.

It is the final anno' by Edgar Martin who, after 33 years, is leaving the BBC.

Very sad that local TV has lost such a great voice and technical talent. I do like to think that this isn't the last we'll be hearing of him.

Sorry to hear about Edgar Martin's departure from BBC NI, he had one of the most distinctive voices, always warm and welcoming.

His voice certainly changed during his time on air - he was on duty on an off-air BBC NI recording from 1977(?) when the Queen officially opened the University of Ulster campus at Coleraine I watched 25 years later, and I didn't recognise it was the same Edgar Martin who was still announcing at the time.

Is David Olver still announcing from Broadcasting House? During my most recent visits back home I haven't heard him on any links. IIRC he and John Ashe are the last of the "old school" BBC NI announcers.

It is interesting listening back to old recordings... hearing how the voice changes over time.

David and John are still on-air... as is Ann Osborough, though you'll only hear her one or two mornings per week.

Any chance that we can get rid of the other boring voices on there as well?
