Wasn't sure where to put this.. but thought I'd have a stab....
I was wondering who the BBC announcer is (male) that did this morning's BBC1 links.
Can anyone help me ? Smile
Much appreciated. This post may be moved if it is the wrong place.

No he's at Five now.

The material evidence would point to it having been Phil Vowels - can't confirm though.

Phil Vowles in the morning? Good lord, does that man ever go home?

The 'Phil Vowles in a sleeping bag in his car' theory is starting to hold water.

Well judging by this morning he must be locked in his CA suite with no windows, out of breakfast he said:

"What do you think of Bush's state visit, Kilroy talks to people about it, and good morning by the way, then after that under the hammer"

Or words to that effect.

Well! You can't get more interesting than that. Or can you? Perhaps Nick would like to tell us Glenn and Trish's biro of choice. Or the real continuity/presentation issue - Microphones, sock or popper stopper?

I'm not sure I understand the point you're trying to make. What's the problem with that announcement?

I agree with Dan - we moan on here all the time about dull announcements on ITV1 particularly, the BBC are far better at this informal off the cuff stuff.

As for micrphones in studios give me a muff (oooer) anytime - I like to place a condom on our main studio mike - we always practice safe broadcasting here at The Bear!

Yes I'd heard you like a nice muff Steve. For a while the con booths in London had muffs AND popper stoppers. Overkill? You decide.

Thanks to both Dan and Steve, I really thought I was missing something. The announcement was worthy or our attention because?

Muffs are some radio presenters preference so they can close mic and over compress.

"How do I sound butch?" the new boy asks the PD.

"Swallow this m'laddio"

"What is it?"

"An AKG414"

My preference is a popper stopper saves all that learning proper mic technique nonsense.

And now dull shwbiz gossip. Two days ago, THE voice over job landed in my lap. Great PR value and brilliant for the CV, I couldn't wait to tell everyone. Fax whirrs into action, a 6 page NDA, non disclosure agreement. They're not paranoid in California, just careful.

Can you still get the ammunition for one of those things?
