Crystal Palace Park is in the London Borough of Bromley (and a very nice park it is too - it's got dinosaurs and everything).

Does anyone have a video of BBC One going off-air because unfortunately I fell asleep and missed it all! Embarassed Crying or Very sad

It was nice of them to start and end the tests with pictures of the flag of the Central Anorak's Republic.

I told you so!

So, where does the Oxford transmitter receive transmissions from on these occasions?
Does it recieve directly from Crystal Palace or perhaps Hannington (or even Sandy Heath!)?

I did say near Croydon Smile

Should I just stop digging my hole now?

(You're right, it is a nice park. Me and the girlfriend had a nice time wandering around trying to find the dinosaurs, and weren't disappointed when we eventually did)

Oxford in its normal state is fed by fibre from Southampton (via London) for BBC 1, and by off air reception of Hannington for BBC 2.

During the test last night, I'd guess that BBC2 would have been unaffected, (still fed from Hannington) and BBC 1 by off air CP or Hannington.

Hmm...type '888', and you'll get a green box saying 'BBC 1 888' in red at the top right.
Not that I was expecting 'TONE'...

Been years since I've seen that ... used to be yellow on blue didn't it!

It used to be yellow-on-blue on network programmes and red-on-green on regional programmes. I presume that's still the case.

Could "CAR" not stand for "Central Analogue Ring" - As in the ring main circuits used for transmission of TV round the BBC? Just a thought...

Useless fact 325: CAR changed its name to CCA about five years ago (central Control Area). There must be a few 'die hards' left in the area. Having said that, whenever I speak to them it's: "hello CAR, sorry, CCA". They so laugh....

Useless fact 326: News still has SCAR (well, SCAR 6 to be accurate).

Useless fact 327: That signal shown in a previous post is generally what CCA squirt down all circuits until they are in use. Tells you where it comes from, aspect ratio, bars and 2T pulse and bar. Along with tone (-18dB on digital machines = PPM4), it allows engineers on the receiving end to line up accurately.

I'd imagine the strange new test signal was coming from the shiny new Broadcast Centre, rather than TV Centre, across the road.

Useless fact 328: The test would have originated in the CCA not the shiny new Broadcast Centre.

Oh, sorry, I stand corrected.

It was obviously the flag of the Communist Centre for Anoraks, then!

what function do the moving green, green and red bits in the circle perform?

I don't know if this is the real reason, but with LCD/plasma displays a lot more commonplace it's quite usefull to have a standard moving image test that you can perform on all of them to see which displays moving images with the least amount of "motion blur"

don't confuse me with someone who understands this stuff. I gave up on the really techy stuff years ago, I just press buttons and click mice these days. Where's noggin when you need him?
