At BBC1's closedown, they said that the channel would continue with News 24 on digital, otherwise the station would be closing down - either way, it'd be back for Breakfast at 6.

There were some flickers (with a hint of green) just after 0330, while News 24 was still on, which looked like some switches happening, then after a few moments, the new test pattern appeared.

Again, the picture is pretty high quality, despite bouncing through quite a few transmitters to make it up to Glasgow.

theyve just pulled the plug to the tx's and bbc one on sutton is lower quality than the bbc two re-broadcast picture.

CAR is indeed Central Apparatus Room.

Nice crash straight into the test on One. No explanation or anything, nor reassurance that normal broadcasts continue on digital... Anyone just tuning in wouldn't have a clue why they're suddenly watching a live noughts and crosses match.

Aye, pretty darned good signal here too in Granada-land. Not sure, but TCJ looks lopsided now though, as if it's been shifted to the left too far when it was switched. I'll check when they stop re-broadcasting, and start the usual feeed again. As I type, the picture has been jumping about a bit, but seems to have settled again.

EDIT: There's something nicely re-assuring about that tone. Especially as I've just heard a huge crash outside. Looks like I might have to replace a fence panel soon! Laughing

As expected, perfect pictures from Crystal Palace. Type '888', and you'll get a green box saying 'BBC 1 888' in red at the top right.
Not that I was expecting 'TONE'...

Been years since I've seen that ... used to be yellow on blue didn't it!

1 and 2 have been pretty good as usual for me, just a little ghosting, although I think 1 is slightly worse than 2.

nodnirG attempts to keep up with Mr Hick's editing!
Yes pictures as usual here too! Wink

BBC1 seems slightly better than BBC2 did in Glasgow; but as I mentioned, this TV's not usually tuned in for analogue.

As of 0420, we're back to the weird CAR card - still on a re-broadcast from London though (judging by the pic quality and CEEFAX).

EDIT: 0426 and TCJ is back from London.

EDIT: 0433 and with a few jumps, BBC One is back from Winter Hill.

On that note, I bid you farewell! I can't get my desktop to record these ISO's properly, so I'll leave it until tomorrow. Goodnight! Smile

Central Apparatus Room, surely.

I'd imagine the strange new test signal was coming from the shiny new Broadcast Centre, rather than TV Centre, across the road.

No, the fact that the bars are identified 'CAR' means that they are coming from CAR in TV Centre and nowhere else. The channels from presentation/BBC Broadcast - no matter where they are based - go through CAR on their way to the transmitters.

Incidentally, my TV's not usually tuned in for analogue, but the signal here in Glasgow isn't too bad - it's certainly quite watchable, with just a wee bit of ghosting. And that signal's come a long way from Croydon..

<pedant> it's not come from Croydon at all

Ahem. Sorry, I was not long back from the pub, and somehow managed to miss the "TV Centre" part of "TV Centre CAR"

Crystal Palace is near Croydon. As in the Borough of Croydon. South London, innit.
