I think they launched in 1936 so it could be next year.
Or if you're talking of BBC1 itself, then I have no idea.

Can anyone tell me when the next big BBC 1 birthday is?
If the birthday is soon, does anyone know if they will introduce new idents?

BBC 1 did not exist until 1964 - someone will know the exact date, I'm sure! . There was only one television channel operated by the BBC - and it was known simply as BBC Television. While it's true that there were
some
BBC Television Services available in the London area in the late thirties, they ceased during the Second World War.

Yes, BBC Television (1 service) started in 1936, stopped during the war and carried on till today, becoming BBC1 in 1964.
It started in London (from Alexandra Palace), then gradually spread to The Midlands, the North and across the country starting int he 1950's

Well actually the ITV1 brand was first used in 2001. And I wouldn't say it has 'started' yet. It will only start when a single national franchise is awarded to a single franchisee.
At present it's nothing more than a load of rebranding and marketing designed to pass a regional network off as a national channel.

The same can be said for ITV.
Imagine in 50 years time there'll be people who would say that ITV1 "started" in 2002.
