The fact that ITN are owned party by Granada and Carlton doesn't have as greater effect as you would think.
Remember, they also have interests in UTV, part of the other consort.
No they don't : UTV's shareholding is
29.9% CanWest Global Inc (Canada)
c.10% John B.McGuicken (Chair of UTV)
c.5% Ulster Television Employee Share Option Trust
c.55% Listed on the Dublin and London Stock Exchange - Institutions and Public.
Granada and Carlton have nothing to do with UTV. (Although Granada is a partner with CanWest in TV3 Ireland).

That doesn't change the fact that Lisa Aziz has no neck.
it's interesting how she always bends down slightly and leans forward when its her turn to read off of the autocue isn't it?

UTV plc has appointed Granada Enterprises as its advertising sales agent for the next five years commencing January 2001.
John McCann, Managing Director, UTV said: “Granada emerged as the strongest contender for this contract because it offers the best synergies with our existing operation. Granada demonstrated a unique knowledge of the Irish and UK Television markets and we feel this relationship will serve to increase our already strong presence in the industry.
“As the first of the independent ITV channels to finalise this vital sales decision (previous contract held by United's TSMS), we are confident that today's announcement secures our share of the 2001 advertising market.”
Mick Desmond, Chief Executive Officer at Granada Enterprises said: “The deal enhances our ITV sell and our presence in Ireland, as we will be maintaining the local sales team in both Dublin and Belfast.”
UTV represents 2% of ITV's revenue and is a strategic player in the Irish broadcasting market. Its recent interim results showed advertising and sponsorship income increased by 12 per cent on last year. Granada Enterprises believe there is considerable scope in the market for continued growth.
This deal means Granada Enterprises now sells for 35.4% of the ITV network.
That's only an advertising sales deal and does not give them an equity stake in UTV - ie they're doing only on a commission basis.
And it does not give Carlton anything to do with UTV. (In fact not giving it to Carlton, knowing full well that Carlton can take over UTV but Granada cannot, was probably a shrewd move to avoid takeover).
