I don't believe stv would create a new builtin at 6pm, stv north at least has million viewers. Make likely it would be spilt between Glasgow and Edinburgh news plus Scotland tonight.

But how many viewers does the 6pm Edinburgh bulletin get though? I wouldn't imagine it'll be that high...

East has 1.3million, West has at leat 2.5million,

Nah no way, you're saying that half the Scottish population watches STV News at Six (West)? Last time I saw figures it was only around the 600,000 mark and that was for both West and East...

Those are the populations for each area Wink So if the south only has 250'000 people do you really think STV could justify a full 30mins show for the two area?

No that 600,00 is for viewing figures, not population...

I was making the point that due to Southern Scotland having 260,000 viewers currently, then it could warrant an STV 'South' bulletin...

It seems this may have gone over a few people:

http://media.ofcom.org.uk/2013/07/23/ofcom-sets-out-licence-terms-for-itv-stv-utv-and-channel-5/

Quote:
In Scotland, Ofcom is requiring enhanced coverage of Scottish affairs in the area covered by ITV’s Border licence that lies in Scotland to better serve viewers.

In addition to retaining a full 30 minutes of weekday early evening news relevant to the region, Ofcom will require a further weekly 90 minutes of regional programming to be scheduled for viewing in the Scottish part of the Border region. That programming may be shared with the other Channel 3 licensees in Scotland. ITV must now provide separate transmissions for the two parts of the Border region, so that viewers in England can continue to see network programming.

I love how for English viewers full time network programming is totally fine. Maybe we all would like a little, just a little, regional programming?

The only reason most of Scotland gets what it does is because STV is fortunate enough to have not been swallowed up by ITVplc, otherwise, it'd have the same level of service as Wales. Same with UTV. The Scottish part of Border gets a short straw because of the consolidation and virtual destruction of regional ITV, the same short straw that the English part of Border gets, as does Tyne Tess, Yorkshire, Granada, Central...

Could one possible solution be, if the scottish area of Border was moved to STV, to have Dumfries and Galloway covered by the Glasgow (West) bulletin, and the Scottish Borders region covered by the Edinburgh (East) bulletin?
