I hate to continue going of topic... perhaps it needs separated?

I seem to recall reading at the time that Double Dare was replaced was because Nickelodeon, owners of the original format, were in the process of setting up their UK station (which launched a year later) and were toying with the idea of doing it themselves so didn't allow the BBC to make any more.

Then they decided to make their own version of Get the Picture.

Did they end up showing it as part of the (barely believable that it happened nowadays) CBBC on Nickelodeon strand?

Thats shocking, why do TV people need to change the music?

Because TV producers like to fix what isn't broken all the time. Usually for the worst.

Not always.
New producers/production teams like to, where possible, put there own stamp on an existing production.
If its not a tightly enforced brought in format, and you can make changes, then theme music is one of the easiest to stamp your new authority on.
It's also the most dangerous one to change, should the original theme be memorable/humble with the audience.

Double Dare has actually just returned in the US and seems to have been well received. The original host is now the announcer and does feature occassionally on screen whilst a trendy Youtube has been bought in as host and seems to be doing a decent enough job.

As for Chucklevision - undoubtedly a classic but in all honesty apart from the intro and "to me to you" I don't remember much specific about it. Essentially one of those shows that however many episodes they churned out they were basically all the same. Indeed that's the case for many successful long running shows.

I find a lot of programmes update their themes to stay contemporary - the remixed BBC sport themes come to mind, but mainly long-running soaps or dramas like The Bill, Casualty, Emmerdale, Byker Grove, and Hollyoaks. One notable outlier I think is EastEnders - still sounds very ‘80s due to the drum machine - perhaps because of the negative reaction to the 1993 version.

Then of course you had the likes of Tomorrow’s World and Top of the Pops that would introduce completely new theme tunes in keeping with the times.

Casualty was ruined in series 16? while Eastenders still doesn't sound right to me. I did hear TVAM get new music every year someone upstairs said no.

Casualty's current theme is a good update though.

Doctor Who of course, too.

One notable exception is Coronation Street. Never changed at all in 58 years, I believe?

Corrie changed in 2010.

Interesting to see all these really old photos floating around the internet from the early days of their performing careers

Barry looks recognisable, but I can barely recognise Paul. No moustaches, and Paul barely even looks old enough to grow one there.
