Yes it was a day of work for me yesterday and when I got home there was no Weakest Link or Simpsons lined up. The general cry of myself and my mates who joined me was "bloody bank holiday telly" so we made do with downloaded video. I dont recall there being any special provision for Scotlands holidays when they come around.

The question of "making do" is a moot one. When I grew up, traditionally Scottish kids didnt get holiday programming until England went on school holiday (several WEEKS later), and you would find that you didnt get to see the final episodes of any of the serialised kids shows, as we would be back to school by then.

I don't see now (and couldn't understand then) why 5 million people - and thats not a small amount - had their viewing squewed in this way every summer.

Yes, quite ridiculous really. For those of us who advocate a complete ITV with no regions, I suppose this case proves us wrong. STV, Grampian and BBC Scotland really ought to have the ability to opy-out and re-jig things. Quite poor for the year 2003 with all this technology flying about.

I really hope we get an extra Bank Holiday here in Wales on 1st March - it is St Davids Day so we should have it as a holiday.

And Wales would have to opt out of the network for the whole day - what a nightmare that would be for them at the transmission centre in London

for reference, holidays are...

January 1
January 2 (Scotland only)
St Patrick's Day (Northern Ireland only)
Good Friday
Easter Monday (not Scotland)
First Monday in May
Last Monday in May
Second Monday in July (Northern Ireland only)
First Monday in August (Scotland only)
Last Monday in August (not Scotland)
Christmas Day
Boxing Day

The only one I'm not sure about is if Scotland have St Andrew's Day as a holiday.

Where New Year's Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on a Saturday and Sunday, the next day that isn't already a holiday is taken as a holiday in lieu.
