That was either amazingly good or extremely bad co-incidence. Very funny though, Matt Lucas does Johnson well

Just me who thought the Johnson bit was in bad taste, coming so soon after the evening's Ministerial Broadcast?

Timing wasn't ideal but would have been worse if C4 hadn't aired Boris and aired that instead. Matt seems to fit in well though.

I think the other thing that was jarring about it was that you don't watch Bake Off to be reminded about the real world - it's a bit of escapism.

Oh please, it was fine. It was hardly high political satire and wasn’t offensive. It was a fun little sketch to kick off the show, which played on a setup which has become very recognisable to all Brits this summer. By pure coincidence, the Prime Minister’s broadcast was scheduled right before it, and - IMO - that only made the sketch seem funnier and more relevant.

Lovely to have the show back. It’s exactly the pleasant and warm entertainment that was needed after the announcements over the last few days.

And the country needs Bake Off (and Strictly when it returns) right now.

COVID has directly affected baking and Bake Off though, with the shortage of flour and eggs, and the bubble arrangements for filming, so a light hearted sketch I think was fine.

Surprised they didn't sneak in a little reference to Marjorie Dawes with it being a cake episode!

Never too soon to rule it out for definite.
