What producer thought it was a great idea to have Iain Stiring as voiceover this year?! His voice style is wrong for this event.

Ugh.

Television’s obsession with wanting to be filmic reaches new heights as a compilation of 4:3 news reports from the 80s and 90s gets cropped to 16:9 and then letterboxed.

When a prestigious respected organisation like BAFTA gives awards to TV shows like Love Island, which essentially is 3rd rate, barrel scraping, lowest common denominator trash TV watched mainly by chavs, it loses almost all of the prestige and respect it deserves.

Congratulations to Sean Bean for winning the BAFTA for leading actor. Your award was well deserved. I watched repeats of Broken on RTÉ One on Friday nights for the last weeks. It really is an excellent series for highlighting the supportive work that priests do in the Catholic Church under such horrible circumstances.

Who are you to declare what is worthy and what isn’t?

Quite frankly, that’s absolute bloody nonsense with no factual basis whatsoever.

Love Island was the most watched and talked about show for 16-34 year olds last year. Contrary to your claim that it was watched mainly by ‘chavs’, it was actually watched by many young professionals and University students. You may be confusing Love Island’s audience with that of Big Brother — they are very different.

Love Island was almost unique in that attracted such a large live TV audience for the 16-34 age group in the era of Netflix and Amazon Prime.

I’m personally glad that the BAFTA panel is made up of younger and older members, and it’s good to see programs for younger people being recognised.

To be fair, loads in my office made up of what might be described as ‘young professionals’ watched it, so it’s not right to say it’s just chavs.

It’s not my cup of tea, trashy reality goes as far as I’m a Celebrity for me.

The award was acceptable, what was out of step was how the whole show seemed to revolve around Love Island, getting Iain Stirling in, and making gags about the show numerous times.

Not particularly surprising, there's a lot of envy/surprise at it's success on ITV2, which has rival broadcasters trying to capitalise on this in that demo.

Well if so-called young professionals and University students wish to watch the absolute worst of reality TV, they really should know better. Fair enough, it may have attracted a large TV audience ... but it's still a large TV audience of mostly very sad people that enjoy watching utterly pointless s**te, featuring a cast of utterly pointless nobodies that only want to be famous for having sex on live TV.

If this is the sort of s**t TV that is getting BAFTA awards, then BAFTA is no longer the prestigious organisation it once was.

I think that’s C5’s first ever BAFTA. Very well deserved it’s an unexpectedly excellent series.

I know people slag off 5 but Cruising with Jane McDonald is a great show, I am surprised Rich House, Poor House wasn't nominated because that's a another good show.

Is the BBC NC doing an extra programme for the BAFTA TV Awards tonight like what they did with the Film awards?
