I'm outraged. I'm organising a protest.

Channel 4 continuity has always been a bit 'different' lets say! Like when BB launched on 5, they made a joke 'resurrecting the dead may be what some channels do....but here on channel 4 we like to keep it fresh...' or words to that effect I thought that was bit out of line and hypocritical, they had the show for years when everyone was calling it boring for the last five years if it's C4 run!!

I think the Simpsons thing was funny. I heard the 'Sampsons' one first and thought it was just a mistake, and then heard another before reading it was being done for a laugh by the announcers. Once I knew it was a joke, I found it funny, because it conveys a sense that all the Channel 4 announcers know each other and get on well enough to come up with this game. I liked it for that, it made Channel 4 seem friendly.

It makes me wonder if one of them mispronounced it by accident and they played on that. Could be something similar with the Countdown Cat.

E4 announcers used to play on their repeat-heavy schedule all the time.

And plenty of ITV announcers have also done the comedy references shtick down the years...

Colin Weston at Granada, Paul Veysey at Central spring to mind - and Julian Simmons at UTV still makes a living out of it to this day.

I remember on the news Hugh Edwards saying that Wales had won the five nations cup, then said "I enjoyed saying that so much I'm going to say it again, Wales have won the five nations cup."

it's just a bit of fun, lighten up some people Rolling Eyes
