I remember back in 1999 when I was watching Sky Sports 1 on CWC Analogue, they used to take the feed from Astra, but the weather was very bad and I mean awful and it did start to affect the picture, in the analogue way really, a bit of snow and a few lines.

Though NTL Digital has been fine, it can stand some bad weather, but it plays up when the temperature is really high, it can stand rain, probably a great benefit of cable.

Freeview where we are can stand bad weather, I was using a Freeview box one day when the weather was very bad and the only channels that were playing up were BBC1, BBC2, CBBC/BBC3 and BBC News 24, all of the other channels were suprisingly fine, even they use a different strength of transmission.

I still haven't sorted mine out yet. I still can't get ITV2, BBC One, Channel 4, Sky News, Sky Active, Sky One, and a bunch of others. And I still keep moaning about it.

I am thinking of getting sky but I just need to know of you have to have a phone service when you get it because you have to have a phone service when you get ntl or telewest, don't you? When i am on their website it says, please choose the phone package you want when I select digital television so thats why I would like to know if you have to have a phone service when ou get sky, or is it just television and doesn't affect out BT phoneline.

Thanx,

The reason why sky has a phone line for the digibox ,is to update it with info such as software. and for interactive services which some is freephone or have to pay but you would be warned on screen.

Had similar problems with mine and my housemates boxes in the last few days - where only certain channels were available. It was easily cured by unplugging the box and plugging it back in - seems to reboot it and brings all the channels back.

Tried all that. Mine hasn't been the last few days, it's been like it for months. Dad has all the details, all he has to do is phone them but he's quite happy to sit there moaning about it every day. Rolling Eyes

So, for Sky you will have to get their phoneline aswell then, and not keep our original company (BT).
Is Sky like NTL or Telewest, by forcing you to join their phone line/company?

No, you keep on BT. All you need is a phone line, I don't think it matters what telephone company you're with, but if you're with BT then thats fine. Sky just needs to be able to plug into your phone socket - just like your computer plugs into the phone socket so you can go online.

I took at least three calls an hour for the number for Sky Digital Customer Services tonight.
