I have been experiencing some bad transimission from BBC Two, ITV, C4 and C5. It's not my house because my next door neighbour has got bad transmission too. Has anyone else been experiencing bad transmission in either the same area as mine or in a different area. I live in Swindon, Wiltshire if anyone lives nearby.

They mentioned something on BBC Weather before about something affecting signal quality, can't remember what it was though. They said, however, that digital viewers would be OK.

Yep; most of lastnight, and most of this morning there was faint lines 'dancing' horizontally across channels BBC 1, ITV1, and Channel 4. BBC Two was OK here. I dunno how it's been this afternoon, I havn't watched any TV!

Strange what's going on though...

Yep, Waltham quality has been really bad. Great day for DXing though Wink

I used to enjoy DXing - until ITV appeared on something wonderful called Other Channels! And, as of January 2002, I'll have no excuse for DXing at all... http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif (sort of)

Its all to do with the high pressure system sitting over the UK at the moment. The high pressure causes an effect called 'fading'.

If you live on the fringe of an analogue transmitters patch, then high pressure causes the radiated power to fade as the signal gets weaker.

Theres nothing the broadcasters can do - as under normal conditions the transmitter power is just fine.

During the summer you also get a thing called 'co-channel' interference... you start to see shadows of other services on nearby frequencies.

The answer... is digital - not affected in the same way as analogue.

Yep, hence me watching Belgium channel Canvas for most of yesterday while BBC One was on the severe blink.

And we have ghosting/lines on all the analogue channels most of the time. That's why the strength for ITV Digital isn't enough and required us to get Sky.

That reminds me Asa - I posted this question in the 'Translation' thread before it went walkies:

What was the frequency of the Belgium channel?
AS

Well it came up as 25 on the Hauppauge WinTV - does that mean anything?

My tv just auto-tunes without giving the frequency out.

Cheers, Asa

Aah yes, 25 here is YTV from Belmont, with 61 being Carlton Central from Waltham.

no problems from sutton coldfield transmitter, but the announcer before the lunchtime news on central appologised for any interferance, which was down to athmospheric pressure, have any other regions bothered to appologise?

Yes, there is an unusually high pressure over my area 1039 millibars and rising. I think it should start to fall soon (well I hope Wink)
