When "Friendly TV" started a couple of years ago they did this sort of thing, the "set" being a shower curtain from Argos held up with some ladders. I really don't understand how this can make money.

If we were in a cable area it be the way we'd go too - but without Freeview is more than enough.

Well I was going to get Freeview but is isnt yet available in my area apparently. When I typed my postcode in it said it should be available by the digital tv switchover.

DTT coverage will match that of analogue after the switchover, so yes you will get digital, but not necessirily all the channels. You will get the new Public Service MUXs as a minimum

I agree it's not really Sky's fault that such awful channels appear. SES/Astra & Eutelsat really ought to be controlling the quality of channels on their satellites, but after all they are there to make money and if someone pays the going rate they will provide the facility to broadcast. Similarly BSkyB then make money by charging for the EPG slot.

There are plenty of rubbish channels but most fold after a while unless they have a niche market to tap into.

If you thought Sky was bad, you should look at other satellites, they have these crap channels all over!

I was watching the African channel (BEN) one night and they were talking about cooking.. all these women in their overalls being told how to cook fish and to beward of fish as sometimes it is common practice to poison them before they're caught with toxins poisoness to humans.... quite odd.

As for the dodgy 900 channel, I put it on there once to see how long it would be before somebody hot annoyed, and it didn't take long....

I do think one of the big flaws of Sky's platform is the inability to delete or move channels, and was one of the reasons I switched to Freeview. Finding a decent programme amongst all the trashy channels is like finding a needle in a haystack. I know the Favourites EPG goes some way to address this, but it'd still make life a lot easier if you could remove some of the rubbish.

This is the kind of thing you should never be able to get via Freeview. Unfortunately, you can. Smile TV is only on for 3 hours a night, and they fill it with this kind of crap. Why the hell doesn't Ofcom introduce some kind of quality rule for Freeview? Everybody is going to have to switch to digital soon, and if you go for the terrestrial option you've still got to put up with this being pushed on you. OK, you don't have to watch it, but when there's not a lot of space, and the qulity of the mpg is poor, why the hell are they allowed to sell the space to channels that just show pointless crap, like shopping channels and Smile TV? The space / time could be used a lot better.

Sky can do what the hell they like as far as I'm concerned, but Freeview should be pure quality.

I watch Sky using my non Sky receiver, and I do have the capability to delete all the rubbish out Cool

So do I, and I thought everyone did now. Perhaps Spencer hadn't realised they were about to introduce that feature before he switched to Freeview Shocked
