I think for the worst programming scheduling is for the ITV News at 10.30 finishing. TV listings say it finishes at 11pm, and it does around about then or 5 past, but the next programme doesn't start until about 11:10pm due to the ad breaks!
That's because they cram even more news in
It always starts dead on 10.30, so I don't know what the original poster is on about
The BBC Ten O'Clock News is the same, the programme at 10.35 is more like 10.38
The programme is too big for it's slot, it's not an overrun it happens every day. It is purposely scheduled that way.
The news needs a 40 minute slot to comfortably fit it in like the old News at Ten days, when the next programme in the schedule was 10.40pm.
ITV don't schedule it as such because people are more likely to stick around for a programme if it's billed at 11pm rather than 11.05pm. There's never anything worth watching at 11 anyway, it's a dead slot to fill before ITV Play.
C4 have always scheduled their programmes in the 11pm hour as beginning at 11.05pm.
The reason that ads take place after 11pm, rather than in the minutes before 11pm, is because they can only show so many ads in "prime time", from 6pm-11pm, so it makes more commercial sense to use some of thier overnight quota at 11pm rather than take a couple of minutes from the peak of the primetime schedule.
Agree though if it regularly overruns so much it should be scheduled that way.
The most obvious examples though of programmes not running exactly to schedule is usually on Saturday nights when the BBC or ITV are launching something new and the other station plays spoiler tactics, deliberately starting programmes early or having them overrun to avoid you switching over at that junction.

News at Ten used to end at 10.30pm though didnt it with the regional news as a seperate programme from 10.30pm.

Even then it was always late, I never recalled once when News At Ten during the late 1990's ever began on time, it was always edging towards 10.05pm on most nights, although the next programme was never later than 10.45pm, they never usually began at 10.40pm.
But saying that the Lunchtime News has gone the other way, every time I put it on it usually begins at 1.28pm, but whenever they promote it they do usually say just before 1.30pm.
ITV.... well everybody notice... Monday's.... Emmerdale starts and finishes a bit late... Corrie Starts sometimes about 7:35 and finishes at 8:02 (Just as Eastenders is starting!) then Corrie is back on at 8:29! (Just Before EE finishes!)
I know it's really a UKTV G2 thing but UKTV sometimes do throw in a bit of humour in their presentation.
Brekkie Boy posted:
E4 do that sort of thing all the time - and More4 too.
I know that, which is why I started the thread. Some channels enjoy injecting abit of humour into their presentation. It was nice to see it extended to uktv GOLD for once.
Normally they only think the youngsters watching G2, BBC THREE or E4 enjoy having a quiet snigger at that.
EDIT:
Perhaps one of our best mockers can come up with a:
In a bit
Abit later
Abit after that

I think the lunchtime news is in too short a slot. IMO it would be better to have the regional news as a seperate 10-15 minute bulletin and the lunchtime news would then have a full half hour for national news.
Could have the regional bulletin at 13.15 followed by the National at 13.30 for example.

Yes Corrie's start times tend to be
Sunday 19.30
Monday 19.34 and 20.29
Wednesday 19.29
Friday 19.33
Sunday's seem to be the only night they start on time (give or take 30 seconds or so)
