Christmas special aside, it's almost certain we saw the last of Bad Girls tonight. And what a pitiful swansong.
OK, so the show is known for its surreal plots and (dare I say it) escapism, but compare this series to last year and you'll realise just how poor it was. A screw who falls in love with an inmate and gets her pregnant, too much emphasis on the sordid lives of Lou Stoke and her sister, and, most disappointing of all, one inmate murders another, disposes of the body with no repercussions.
All a far cry from the very beginning when graphic de-crotchings, inmates being bullied to death or stabbing officers was the norm. So who's to blame? ITV of course, who in their wisdom ordered major changes this year because of disappointing ratings last time.
The result was a pantomime of a series, so the time is right to put this animal down.
