Has anyone noticed how the background behind the presenter on the ITN Channel keeps on changing? It's now just a pale blue shot of the newsroom (minus the white lines which probably came from lights shining on it), but last night, it changed from this at 12.55am to a very dark blue one at 1am. It looked very strange, I wonder if it was supposed to be this dark or if a light wasn't working or something. It certainly looked weird when Sharon Gray said 'And now for a look at the way that ITN has reported the news over the last 24 hours' with the dark backdrop, only to cut to her (obviously prerecorded) with the pale backdrop complete with white stripes (no ITN Review sting!).
I think that the best one is the dark blue one, it looks more newsy if you know what I mean! It looked really good with the neon lights on the desk, perhaps they were testing it out?
Was the change in background when the ITN review of the day/week started at 0105ish?
The ITN News Channel main news during the day is a real, live, background, but the background behind the presenter for the bulk of the overnight service, ie the links for the ITN Review, is a 'fake' CSOed background (either recorded earlier, or a recorded background) I believe the overnight presenter records these links BEFORE they start presenting the overnight service.
This might explain the change of background. I think the bulk (i.e. 5 min past until the top of the hours) of the overnight service is recorded links into recorded packages/recorded lives. The only 'LIVE' part of the output at the top of the hour is the top of the hour headline/news summary.
No, the dark background was used during the headlines, but changed to an obviously prerecorded light one for the Review.
The lack of a sting between the two bits of Sharon (who BTW used to present the local breakfast news opts on Anglia East when I lived in Norwich!) sounds like a cock-up.
The light background used before 0100, then a dark background used post 0100, then the recorded one used post 0105, sounds like either they had moved studios for some maintenance work, or as you say a lighting problem.
Actually - ISTR that different ITN presenters have different lighting plots - it could be that the lighting plot for Sharon recalled oddly when she sat in for the 0100? Not a lot of time to tweak lighting between the 0000 presenter leaving and Sharon sitting in? Mayb it recalled/was recalled incorrectly?
